EC Meeting Papers July 2018

5

Occupational Profile

It was agreed that a working group would be formed to progress the formulation of the occupational profile. This would be comprised initially of Doug, Carl, Sarah and Barbara. In the first instance Carl, Sarah and Barbara would meet in London to draft some proposals. Action Doug, Sarah, and Barbara. The trailblazer group would receive all draft paperwork for final approval. This may take place via email prior to the next meeting and then at the next meeting more detailed work would be undertaken by the group to identify the exact standards for each job role to be proposed.

6

Standards

It was noted that there had been substantial work undertaken previously (2012) to identify the core standards of trade union officials’ roles. This would be a useful reference point and Peter would recirculate the document to the group. Action Peter.

7

Professional Assistance

It was agreed to seek funds of around £2,000 plus to employ the services of Paul Skitt currently leading on this area at Ruskin College to steer the work through the Institute for Apprenticeship processes. The GFTU made the point that it was their policy to only fund public educational bodies rather than free-lance trainers so contributions could be allocated via their Educational Trust and then passed to Ruskin.

A call for funding support would appear in the letter to all unions. Action Doug.

8

Expansion of the group

It was recognised that the organising group for the new apprenticeships could be expanded throughout the process. It was therefore agreed to send notes of this meeting and an invitation to the next meeting to all unions. Action Doug.

9

Group’s contact with the Institute for Apprenticeships and registration.

It was agreed that Barbara would act as the group’s contact with the Institute and would contact them immediately to establish the fact and register the group. Action Barbara.

10

Timetable

The timetable outlined by Paul Skitt was agreed. The objective is to have our apprenticeships up and running by September 2019.

11

Training Provider and End Point Assessment issues.

The training provider could not obviously be the training provider.

The GFTU and Ruskin would discuss these matters and report back to the group at our next meeting. Action Paul and Doug.

12

Dates of next meetings.

The group will meet again at Quorn 11-3pm on November 5 th 2018.

A further meeting will be held on March 4 th 2019. Venue TBC.
