WELCOME TO THE WOODS

Transform yourself, your community, your world.

Aspire Higher at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College

GAGE The GAGE Program is designed to address gender equality in Greece. Among EU nations, Greece ranks last in gender equality, negatively impacting its ability to compete for economic, social, and cultural development initiatives. The initiative is fully funded, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece, and involves two educational institutions Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana, USA, and the University of West Attica, in Athens Greece who recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The main goal of the program is to strengthen the educational ties and the student mobility of both institutions by working together on developing of gender equality case studies which they will be applied to multiple types of organizations in the Greek economy. The project includes case study workshops, immersive study abroad components, cross-cultural collaboration, multidimensional mentorship, and publication opportunities of the outputs with an extensive social impact in improving Greece’s ranking in gender equality in EU nations.

The Woods Over the next five days, participants will learn of the enriched history and culture of Saint Mary-of-the Woods College and of Saint Mother Theodore Geurin’s journey. Through the years, SMWC has helped shape the fabric of both women’s education and early Catholic education in America. During a period of limited opportunities for women and widespread discrimination against Catholics, The Woods’ founding was precipitated by a commitment to helping students Aspire Higher. In 1973, the College was the second in the nation to establish a distance education program with the launch of the Women’s External Degree Program. Before women fought for equal pay, before women secured the right to vote, before the women’s rights movement even began, there was Saint Mary-of-the Woods College. For generations, The Woods has been empowering students to make a difference in their lives and in their world, and it all started with a holy woman’s faith in Divine Providence. Today, the College maintains a proud legacy as a historic women’s college. SMWC is a leader in gender equality in a number of ways. We are excited to host the students and faculty from the University of West Attica as part of the Greek and American Gender Equality Program. A sincere thank you to the U.S. Embassy for supporting this initiative.

Back Home Again, in Indiana

I have always been a wanderer Over land and sea Yet a moonbeam on the water Casts a spell over me

A vision fair I see Again I seem to be

[Chorus] Back home again in Indiana And it seems that I can see The gleaming candlelight, still burning bright Through the sycamores for me The new-mowed hay sends all its fragrance Through the fields I used to roam When I dream about the moonlight on the Wabash How I long for my Indiana home

Fancy paints on memory's canvas Scenes that we hold dear We recall them in days after

Clearly they appear And often times I see A scene that's dear to me

Straight No Chaser, is an Acapella group that originated in 1996 from Indiana University.

Take in the views of Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes- America's inland glacial seas that hold 20% of the world's freshwater...Tour a variety of ethnic neighborhoods and get a taste of authentic Chicago.... Shop the iconic Magnificent Mile. Reap wisdom from women of the Wabash Valley, those who are living examples of the case studies purposed of the Greek and American Gender Equality Program. Meet Onyx

One of the many unique characteristics setting SMWC apart from others in the area is our equine facility, accredited by a certified Horsemanship Association.

We offer hands-on experience with over 40 horses on campus property. To offer the best experience, we have two barns; one for SMWC horses, but a second barn to board horses belonging to the students, or for training and handling classes.

An indoor and outdoor arena provides students the opportunity to ride, all year long, regardless of weather.

Equine Stables

The best part about our equine facility is that it is home to Onyx, who first joined the Woods family in the fall of 2021.
