Fanned a season-high 7 twice, first against Houston (3-1 3-04) in three full innings in front of 25,175 at San Diego's new downtown stadium Petco Park... Was 3-1 with a team-leading 2.26 ERA in 22 appearances and four starts .. . Sophomore in 2004 Solidified USD's weekend rotation as the Toreros' Sunday starter... Hurled six innings of three-run baseball against then-No. 9 Long Beach State (3-14-04) in front of 20,737 fans at San Diego's new downtown stadium Petco Park... Also shutdown conference rival Pepperdine (4-18-04) in front of a national TV audi– ence courtesy of College Sports TV, pitching into the eighth inning allowing just five hits and two runs... Made a total of 13 starts and 20 appearances... Posted a season record of 4-3 with an ERA of 5.10... Struck out 58 in 77.2 innings of work... Fanned a season-high six on three different occasions... Started and al– lowed USO a 7-4 victory at Cal State Fullerton (3-9-04)... Also picked up a pair of saves, his first coming in two-plus innings of work in the front end of a double– header sweep over Santa Clara (4-10-04) and then made the start in game two, going three full innings in a 12-1 USO rout. .. Earned his second save, closing out PAC-10 member California (5-12-04)... Went through a stretch in mid-April going 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in five appearances and three starts... Shutdown Portland (4-25-04) in one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing just one run and punching-out six in seven full innings... Recorded a strikeout in every start and in all but two appearances... Was 2-1 with 35 K's and a 4.66 ERA in 48.1 innings within wee play... Honored as a 2004 wee All-Academic Team selec– tion (3.67 GPA; Business). Freshman in 2003 Led the Torero staff with a 3.10 ERA in West Coast Conference play... Bounced back from a slow start to become one of the best left-handed starters in the West Coast Conference... Was roughed up by Texas and Texas Tech in two of his first three collegiate starts and was resigned to the bullpen for the better part of the non-conference schedule... Took advantage of a mid-week start, throwing four scoreless innings against USC (4-8-03), earning his second win of the season... Never left the starting rotation after that win, turning in six strong performances in a row- propelling USO into the WCC Championships and NCAA Regionals... Was 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA during that six game span .. During a three week stretch in April the Torero offense provided little to no run support for Blaine, going scoreless through 16 plus innings... Struck out 17 in his first 19 innings of work as a freshman ... Worked a season-high six and a third innings twice, vs. Loyola Marymount (5-4-03) and at Portland (5-1 1-03).. Struck out a career-high seven against Portland (5-11-03)... Posted a record of 4-5, 52 K's and an ERA of 4.28. Prep Attended Westlake High School and was named the Warriors Pitcher of the Year as a senior... Compiled a 19-6 overall record as a prep junior and senior... Helped the Warriors reach postseason play for three straight seasons, making a CIF Finals appearance as a junior... Honored as an All-County and AII-Mar– monte League player as a junior and senior...
