Emergency Procedures

Standard Building Evacuation Plan Students should be taught emergency procedures within the first ten days of school. Review and practice these procedures before scheduled drills and periodically throughout the year. Students should follow school rules during drills. Students should be RESPONSIBLE by paying attention and by staying calm. Students should be KIND by following directions. Students should be SAFE by keeping hands feet and other objects to themselves, walking and remaining silent . All classes are expected to exit the building in an orderly manner. Once outside all students who are with specialists will line up by their classroom teacher. An emergency accountability form can be found in your emergency binder. A digital copy will be distributed as well. Please keep roll on this form current. Add move-ins and remove move-outs as necessary. Evacuation: Fire/Earthquake/Other • Immediately upon hearing the fire alarm or announcement from the office, direct students to follow Standard Building Evacuation Plan • TAKE EMERGENCY BINDER • Turn off lights and close doors as you leave • Exit the building according to the established fire escape route • Proceed to designated area and immediately take roll on emergency accountability form. Mark “Absent”, “Present-Accounted for”, “Present-Not Accounted for” and casualties. Record totals at the top of the form. • Hold up green card if all students are present or accounted for. Hold up red card if you have missing or injured students. • Report missing students to designated sweeper. Sweeper reports to Operations. • Remain on scene until All-Clear is given EARTHQUAKE • Follow these procedures when you see or feel evidence of an earthquake or when you hear the earthquake sound effect over the intercom system. • If you are outside, stay outside. If you are inside, stay inside. • Direct students to DROP to the ground • Take COVER under desk or table • HOLD ON to the desk/table • Stay away from windows • Remain under cover until given the all clear by the office or emergency services • Evacuate the building as directed • Be prepared to take alternate route to avoid damaged or unsafe areas
