Techna takes control

Techna International introduces its new ranges of hysteresis brakes, permanent magnet synchronous clutches and barrier clutches. precise, permanent, trouble-free tension control in applications where accurately repeat- able process control is essential such as with fibre optic lines, wire flyer controls, payoffs, and coil winders for wire, films, foils and tapes, winding and unwinding operations and converting equipment. Maintenance-free hysteresis clutches, in flange and cylindrical versions, are designed as two parts that nestle together without physical contact. They offer extremely smooth constant torque over the motor’s entire speed range and, in the case of overloads, smoothly disengage without the abrasion and jerking which often limits the wear of conventional devices. The clutch then slips with the torque remaining at the rated level and the overload energy is safely dissipated as heat. Hysteresis types consist of magnet assemblies surrounding a hysteresis disc; when like poles face each other they provide maximum magnetic saturation of the hysteresis disc, forcing lines of flux to travel circumferentially through the disc to produce maximum torque. When opposite poles face, minimum saturation is caused allowing lines of flux to pass right through the hysteresis disc. A combination of adjustment angles between these two extremes gives infinite adjustability and, as there are no contacting surfaces, the setting can Hysteresis brakes provide The IWMA hopes that member organisations have noted recent changes that have been introduced by the association as it leads up to its 40 th anniversary in 2010, and are proud to be part of the world’s largest, and arguably most influential, corporate membership association for the wire, cable and wire products industries. Your association has commissioned the design of very attractive new corporate silk ties and headscarves.

be maintained indefinitely. The range includes units for low torque and heavy-duty applications, constant tension models to provide ‘set it and forget it’ dependability, assemblies, stands and payoffs. Synchronous clutches are thought ideal for applications requiring frequent high-torque operations with a lesser requirement for absolute zero-backlash positioning accuracy. When an overload occurs they quickly disengage without transmitting any torque, so reducing the risk of damage to connected equipment. Barrier clutches are available in disc or cylindrical types, providing servo- quality torque transmission with overload protection, transmitting force with no A free gentleman’s silk tie or lady’s scarf has been sent, as appropriate, to every main contact at IWMA member organisations and the IWMA hopes very much that everyone will wear its colours on suitable industry occasions. On joining the IWMA new member contacts will receive a free tie or scarf. Additional ties or scarves for colleagues or partners are available, to member organisations only, from the IWMA.

Both ties and scarves cost £6.99, including postage, packaging and VAT at the current rate. Members paying by euros or dollars will be invoiced at the exchange rate prevailing on the date of invoice. If you wish to place an order, please email the Secretariat on info@iwma.org and we will send you the relevant form for completion. Payment can be made by cheque, or by credit or debit card. physical contact between the two clutch sections and so being ideal for applications where torque and speed are transmitted through a container or barrier wall, such as a pump housing. These ranges provide several exceptional features, such as constant torque independent of shaft (rotor) speed, no breakaway torque, no contact between wearing parts, no friction elements, same smooth torque maintained year after year, no magnetic particle leak and no external power requirement. All devices can be custom designed and produced for specific requirements. Techna International Ltd – UK Fax : +44 1923 219 700 Email : sales@techna.co.uk Website : www.techna.eu
