IWMA’s representative office established in China

Despite the difficult global economic situation the IWMA recognises that China will continue its impressive rate of growth, albeit at perhaps a slightly slower rate than in recent years. Undoubtedly, thirst for knowledge about the latest wire and cable industry developments, requests for assistance at major industry events as well as the unique networking opportunities and other benefits provided by the IWMA, arguably the most influential global corporatetradeassociationfortheindustry, will continue to attract membership applications from Chinese organisations. Recognising and anticipating this on- going Chinese interest in the IWMA the Association has decided to appoint a representative office in China to facilitate communications and make it even easier for local organisations to join and benefit fully from being IWMA members. Accordingly the IWMA is pleased to announce that Sinosteel Zhengzhou Research Institute of Steel Wire Products Co Ltd (SZRISWP) has agreed to represent the IWMA in the PRC. SZRISWP is a scientific research institute directly under the original Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1999, the research institute was turned into a science technology enterprise becoming a subsidiary company of Sinosteel Corporation. As the sole specialised scientific institution of the Chinese steel wire products industry, SZRISWP engages in the application, research and development of new materials, new products, new technologies and new equipment for various steel wires and ropes. It employs nearly four hundred people and has an annual capacity of thirty thousand tonnes of steel wire products. The SZRISWP moved to theNational ZhengzhouHi-tech Industries Development Zone in 2006. The Sinosteel Corporation is a central enterprise managed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It has 69 sub-enterprises, among which 49 are in China and 20 abroad.
