New facility for FIB

The new facility also includes better conditions for R&D, pre-assembling and inspection of equipment before delivery. This investment is aimed to help better serve and welcome FIB customers. FIB’s quenching fluid bed, Ecoquench, is becoming popular on patenting lines for rope wire and steel cord. In combination with FIB’s open fire furnace, uniformity and wire structure makes Ecoquench incomparable patenting equipment. Economy is real, with a lower cost of operation compared to lead bath. The latest generation of lead-free Ecoquench is now available and already ordered by two well-known steel cord and tyre producers. FIB Belgium SA – Belgium

After 70 years of activity in the Brussels facility, FIB moved to a new, bigger and better place in Saintes (25km south west of Brussels) in Belgium. With 5,000m 2 of workshop and 1,200m 2 of offices, the new building offers many advantages. In addition to the existing machines, theworkshopwill include new programmable drill and saw equipment and a new plasma-cutting machine. The workshop includes a new furnace for the manufacturing of burners and refractory parts used in installations. FIB is among the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous lines for the steel wire industry, and the only one to develop its own burner system, the FIB premix system. The largest portion of FIB products – steel casing, refractory lining, combustion piping – are fully designed and manufactured on FIB’s premises.

Latest news on Istanbul technical conference As reported in WCN issue 39 the next major biennial conference jointly organised by the Wire Association International (WAI), Associazione Costruttori Italiani Macchine Per Filo (ACIMAF), Comité Européen de la Tréfilerie (CET) and the IWMA will take place at the WOW Hotel and Convention Center in Istanbul 2 nd and 3 rd November 2009. The Center is a brand new world-class facility, situated close to the international airport, but not on the flight path, in a quiet area. Joined to the Convention Center are a four and a five star hotel with special rates for delegates. There is a metro station close to the Center with easy access to downtown Istanbul and the hotels run a free shuttle bus service from the airport for guests. The provisional timetable for the conference on 2 nd November 2009 comprises two concurrent ferrous and non-ferrous sessions in very well appointed conference rooms, with simultaneous Turkish and English translation and, subject to demand, Russian. A table top exhibit area will be situated close to the conference rooms and immediately in front of the refreshment break and lunch room. In the evening of 2 nd November all delegates and speakers will join with those from the concurrent tube conference to enjoy a social event at the famous Binbirdirek Cistern, located in the old city, close to Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. A gala dinner will be enjoyed as well as an evening of traditional Turkish entertainment. On 3 rd November optional plant tours will be available, as well as a possible visit to see the workings of the famous Bosphorus Bridge. A selection of sightseeing tours will be on offer to delegates and their partners before, during and after the conference days. The joint organising committee for the conference is recruiting a panel of high quality speakers for the technical programme, and anyone interested in submitting an abstract for consideration should contact the IWMA Secretariat or theWAI without delay (see page 12). IWMA invites any organisation interested in booking a tabletop exhibit, or taking advantage of a number of sponsorship opportunities, to contact the Secretariat for more details. It has alsobeen confirmed that the InternationalTubeAssociation is organising a concurrent tube conference, Pipe & Tube Istanbul 09, so there will be a similar format to the Prague events held in 2005, when a total of 400 delegates participated at the joint events.
