The IWMA had a highly successful wire China 2008 and the booth in hall W1 at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre was very busy during the first three days of the four day event. Together with Tube China there were more than 30,000 visitors. During the trade fair the IWMA received 138 enquiries, of which 88 were from Chinese companies and organisations. A number of new member applications were also received. This was an increase in activity from wire China 2006. According to official statistics provided by the organisers, Messe Düsseldorf China, wire &Tube China 2008 had a total of 1,098 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions, including 708 exhibitors at wire China and 390 exhibitors at Tube China. Of the 1,098 total 352 exhibitors were from overseas and 746 exhibitors from mainland China. The two events occupied 27,275m 2 of exhibitor space and attracted 31,585 trade visitors from 78 countries and regions, including 4,743 from overseas.

The dates of the 2010 event have not yet been confirmed, although it is certain to be in September of that year. More exhibitor space will certainly be required in 2010, given that the 2008 event was considerably over subscribed. The IWMA is considering a suggestion from a major local sponsoring organisation for a supporting ferrous wire conference just before the start of the 2010 exhibition. Those planning to exhibit or attend the 2010 exhibition are advised to book hotel accommodation as soon as the actual dates are announced because the Shanghai Expo 2010 will still be running at that time.
