Город Верхотурье долгие годы был одним из центров православия в России. После Октябрьской революции из Крестовоздвиженского храма были изъяты мощи Святого Симеона, Николаевский монастырь закрыт, советская идеология постепенно искоренила образ Верхотурья как духовно-религиозного центра. Советская власть создавала культурный противовес старому образу поселения: открывались музей, кинотеатр, новые библиотеки, школы. В 1948 году был организован Верхотурский опытный завод коньков, вскоре онпревратился нетолько в передовое и успешное предприятие, но в центр, объединяющий жителей поселения, которому тогда же вернули статус города. Функцию объединяющего храма взял на себя, как любое градообразующее предприятие, Верхотур- ский коньковый завод. Так, мой родной город Нижние Серги является посадом железоделательного завода, все дороги ведут на «канаву» – так называют местные «Фабрика стала церковью, как единственный факт той действительности, которая парит в духе над миром. Гудки стали исполнять обязанности колоколов или органов... Фабрики и заводы уже не материальны, а культны, надо ждать нового разбега материи, новых машин». Казимир Малевич

The Verkhoturye town had been one of the orthodox centers in Russia for a long time. After the October rev- olution the relics of Saint Simeon of Verkhoturye were seized from Krestovozdvizhensky church, Nickolaevsky monastery was closed, and Soviet ideology has gradually eradicated the image of Verkhoturye as a religion center. The Soviet government was creating a cultural counter- balance for an old image of the town: a museum, a movie theatre, new libraries and schools were opened. In 1948 the Experimental Skates Producing Plant was organized, later becoming not only a profitable enterprise but also a center consolidating residents. As any enterprise forming city infrastructure the ice skates producing plant has taken a function of a temple uniting people. For example my native town of Nizhniye Serghi is a basis of Ironwork plant, and all the roads lead to a local foundry unofficially nick-named the “trench”. In Nizhniye Serghi a huge Club for metallurgists replaced “Plant became a church, as the only fact of that reality which is floating in a spirit above the world. Hooters started to act as bells or organs... Plants and factories are not material any more, they are a cult; we have to wait for a new material takeoff, for new machines.” Kazimir Malevich
