Sample Letter SB216

[DATE]

The Honorable ___________________ Ohio Senate

Ohio Senate Building Columbus, OH 43215

Dear Senator _____________:

The school superintendents in [the service area of the _____________ Educational Service Center OR __________ County] are writing to ask that you support Senate Bill 216, the “Education Deregulation” bill. The superintendents in Ohio Senate District 12 collaborated with Senator Matt Huffman to draft this bill to begin to return some level of control to the local school boards across the State of Ohio. This piece of legislation in no way removes or reduces accountability for the schools of Ohio, but rather it takes a common sense approach to roll back some of the many cumbersome and unnecessary regulations that have been imposed upon Ohio schools through the years. Were these changes to become law, our school districts across the State of Ohio would save both money and time, while not lessening the education our students receive. Proposed changes in this bill are reflected in the teacher licensure regulations, the teacher evaluation system, student mandated testing, and many other administrative areas of the school operation. We ask that you review Senator Huffman’s bill and reach out to us with any questions or concerns that you may have. Thank you for your commitment to the students and citizens of our area. We genuinely appreciate your service and your continued willingness to listen to the educational leaders of our region with regard to topics that affect the future of our school systems and our boys and girls.

Sincerely,
