AUTOMOTIVE STUDY 2025 / Šaroch (ed.) et al.
e Czech Republic is also one of the largest bus manufacturers in the world per capita. In 2023, a total of 5,253 buses were produced in the Czech Republic, which was only one per cent less than in the record year of 2022. e majority of these (4,741 vehicles) were produced by Iveco Bus from Vysoké Mýto (the company was called Karosa until 2006). is was followed by SOR Libchavy (492 vehicles), which also produced 23 pure battery-powered buses. Trucks are only currently produced in the Czech Republic by Tatra Trucks (1,432 units produced in 2023) and Jawa Moto motorcycles (755 motorcycles in 2023). e vast majority of domestic motor vehicle production is exported. Of the total 1.405 million motor vehicles produced in the Czech Republic in 2023, 8%, i.e. 107 thousand, were sold on the Czech market. 1.299 million vehicles were exported. e aim of the nancial analysis of the selected CEE countries in chapter 4 is to assess how the companies in the countries under study (V4 and Germany) have been able to generate value for their owners above the cost of risk and above the cost of lost opportunities. e analysis re ects the lens of a hypothetical market (diversi ed) investor at a given place and time, rather than the lens of a speci c entity (a speci c owner). To measure and analyse nancial performance, the economic value added (EVA) metric and its decomposition into sub-components (value drivers) are used. e analysis not only examines the development of EVA over time but also compares its drivers among countries. is competitive benchmarking provides a deeper insight into the relative success of the automotive industry in each country in question in terms of the extent and in terms of shareholder value drivers. e analyses and overviews contained in this book are selective and are written primarily from a macroeconomic perspective. However, we believe that the book will contribute to a deeper understanding of the role and evolution of the sector and can be a valuable tool not only for teaching at universities but also for economic policy makers and senior managers.
