Vehicle in use in the EU e total number of registered cars in the European Union shows a long-term upward trend. Between 2015 and 2023, the number of motor vehicles increased by 36.2 million units to 293 million motor vehicles, with passenger cars accounting for 31 million of this increase. e total number of cars in use in the EU is thus gradually increasing (at an average rate of 1.3% per year over the last 5 years). e fastest growth in total car registrations in recent years has been in Romania (at a rate of 4.7% per year as of 2018), followed by Lithuania (3.5%) and Estonia (3.0%). In the Czech Republic, it has been at a rate of 2.5% per year.
