connected divisions supplying the Czech automotive industry are employment services (19% of output), textiles (15%), research and development (14%) and metal products (14%) (Šaroch et al., 2022). Business entities, employment and wages e Czech Republic has developed a wide and diversi ed network of entrepreneurs and companies active in the automotive industry. According to data from the Czech Statistical O ce and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2022 (the latest available data) there were 1,163 active entities in the Czech Republic in CZ-NACE 29 Manufacture of motor vehicles, of which 77 were engaged in the manufacture of motor vehicles and their engines (CZ-NACE group 29.1), 183 in the manufacture of car bodies (29.2) and 903 in the manufacture of parts and accessories (29.3). e automotive industry is also a very important sector in terms of employment. It contributes directly to 15 % of manufacturing employment and, in addition, other parts of manufacturing supply the automotive industry. Employment in the automotive industry fell quite signi cantly in 2009 in the context of the global economic crisis, by 20,000 workers to 133,000. e decrease mainly a ected parts and accessories manufacturers, while the decrease was lower for automobile manufacturers (around 1,000 employees). From 2010 to 2013, employment stagnated at around 140,000 workers. Since 2014, however, there has been an increase, up to 179 thousand employees in the automotive industry in 2019. In 2020, the total number of employees in the automotive industry declined by 6.4 thousand, mainly a ecting parts suppliers, while the number of workers increased by 1,000 for nal vehicle manufacturers. e decline in the number of workers in the automotive industry continued, especially for parts manufacturers, in 2022. us, from its peak in 2019 to 2022, the average record number of workers directly employed in the automotive industry fell by 11 thousand (6%), with parts and accessories manufacturing overwhelmingly responsible for this decline.
