Considered a strong defensive player with excellent serve, Shannon is the starting setter and will lead the team this year. She holds the USD career assist record (2,327 entering '92) and recorded 702 assists in '91. She is the USD and WCC record holder for assists in a five game match (89, vs. San Fran– cisco, 1990). Shannon is a USD Trustee Scholar, having received Dean's List (first honors) recognition four times in her collegiate career. One of four seniors and a recognized team leader, Maria is a consistent outside hitter and the best passer on the team. She is the co-holder of the USD record for digs in a season (333, 1990) and is third in career digs (743). Maria recorded 1991 season highs of ten kills and 25 digs against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She is a 1992 team co-captain. PERSONAL: The daughter of Jim Rickard and Marilyn Rickard-Schafer, Maria Antonia Rickard was born in San Francisco CA. She attended Santa Barbara (CA) HS, where she played for Head Coach Bob Moore.
