1983 Alcalá

Capturing the spirit of pride in USD and all it has to offer, Torero Week(November 7-13) burst onto thescene with theBlue and WhiteIce Cream Social. Heavily attended (you should haveseen all the little ice cream cups around the Student Union!) the Social was the first of many get-to gethers. Homecoming Float Parties provided an other opportunity to party with fellow classmates / and show one's pride. The Powderpuff football games provided a great deal of excitement as the Freshmen women toppled the Sophomores and the Seniors crushed the Juniors. Friday found a sea of blue and whitecriss-crossing the campus, as everyone participated in Blue and White Day.The Fiesta Island Barbeque and the AMA TG at Flan- nigans also rounded out a packed-full-of-events Friday. Saturday everybody who was anybody was at the "Pit"awaiting the Parade. Led by the cheer leaders and including the candidates for Home coming Queen and Court andthe class floats, the parade inspired the large (that's "leerge" for the Vista folk) crowd to root our team on. Unfortu nately that rooting wasn't enough as we lost toSt. Mary's 31-10. During Halftime the Homecoming Court was announced. Freshman Princess Julie Dickerson, Sophomore PrincessJohnna Matranga, and Junior Princess Debbie Price were presented to the audience and it was announced that the Junior Class float had won the contest. Scurrying home toprepare for the Homecoming Dance, students and faculty werenot disappointed when they arrived at the spectacular San Diego Hilton to feast ona sumptuous dinner and dance to the music of "Radio Romance". Between the dinner and the danceMargarita Palau, last year's Homecoming Queen, had the honor of crowning Virginia Stehly as USD's 1982 Homecoming Queen. The night continued with good music, good fun, and good friends. Itcertainly was an occasion which allowed all participants the chance to "Col or My World".
