Head Basketball Coach Jim Brovelli feels that the Toreros a e right on target with his five year plan for success. The University of San Diego hoopsters have seen steady improvement in each of the three yearsthat the Toreros have been at the NCAA Division I level and theWest Coast Athletic Conference. In 1979-80 USDfinished last in the WCAC with a 6 19 record and have improved to 11-15 and a sixth place finish in '81-'82. Coach Brovelli views this season astest for the Toreros, due to a loss o! four starters and seven seniors from last year's squad. The returnees include startersRich Davis (6'0",senior, point guard), John Prunty (6 0 junior, point guard), Don Capener (6'4", junior, guard/forward), Robb> Roberts (6'7", senior forward),"and Anthony Reuss (6'7", sophomore, forward). Much of the strength for the season lied in the recruits, whicl included Mario Coronado (6W, freshman, center/forward), Bill Pen- fold (6'5", junior, guard), Dave Mclver (6'8", junior, forward), Brian Setencich (6'7", junior, forward), and Mike Whitmarsh (6'8", junior, for ward). TheToreros played major opponents such as the Air Force Acade my, Northern Arizona, UC Irvine, CalState LongBeach, TexasTech, and San Jose. The combination of veterans androokies has proved to make this seasona successful one for the Toreros.
