By the end of Unit 9, students will be able to: ● write the equation for a circle given the center and an intersection point or radius ● write the equation of a circle by completing the square

HONORS ● defne how the points on a parabola relate to the focus and the directrix ● write the equation of a parabola by completing the square and then identify the focus, vertex, and directrix ● use an ellipse to fnd missing measures on triangles ● calculate missing features of an ellipse and analyze the answers in the context of the problem ● write the equation of a hyperbola ● write a given equation in standard form and identify the shape it would make and two key features using correct math vocabulary such as: ○ circle, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, vertex, vertices, center, radius, focus, directrix, minor/major axis, asymptotes SCAFFOLDING IN ACTION

● Lesson 9.1: Launch - provide pre-cut triangles ● Lesson 9.2: Launch - read aloud, sketchnotes, provide an enlarged graph of the backyard with the scale labeled, provide sentence frames for discussion ● Lesson 9.3: Explore - break down the process into smaller steps for problems 1,3, and 4 (draw a diagram, identify the center & radius, write the equation, connect the diagram to the equation)
