DOMAINE SAINT-LOUIS JAYNE

Laurent Jayne

“I’ve had wine in my veins since a very early age, and the idea of being a wine- grower myself was always a fascination.”

The Jayne family have been in Cassis for many years, and have always worked the land. In 1993, Laurent Jayne took over the family property and created Domaine Saint-Louis Jayne from the vineyard planted by his grandfather Alphonse, better known as ‘Fonfon’, who was a mixed farmer and the inspiration for Laurent, who has now celebrated his memory by naming one of his wines after him. Since obtaining his BTS vocational training certificate in wine studies, he has continually tended his old vines, worked the vineyard in the traditional way and refined his wines driven by his close attachment to the family land and his real passion for the work. “I’ve had wine in my veins since a very early age, and the idea of being a wine-grower myself was always a fascination”. Laurent Jayne is anything but half-hearted about his choice. “He’s a single-minded person driven only by passion”, says his wife. Immune to fashion and marketing, and fiercely independent, Laurent Jayne ploughs his own furrow, but with an uncompromising loyalty to Cassis. “It’s a terroir with a soul”, as he is prone to say, and his wines prove precisely that.
