MUST WATCH

ANIME ROUND-UP

Neon Genesis Evangelion almost seems like a given considering its impact on the cultural landscape, but I for one will concede that the latter episodes are a mind-bending, ear-splitting slog filled with trippy visuals and near constant screaming. ENJOY! The original Mobile Suit Gundam showed that anime isn't just for kids. When it comes to "must- watch" anime series, there are far too many to count. But like the aforementioned Sailor Moon , there are some that almost every fan should at least make an effort to watch, simply because the series is fantastic, or just to shut your friend Billy up (shut up, Billy!). Anime Stalwarts

Sailor Moon

D o you love justice? Do you love you feel like you missed the boat with this legendary anime stalwart, now is the time to get in on the ground level. If you have a few extra Zeni in your pocket, you could always shell out for the Limited Edition release which features Part 1 on both DVD and Blu-ray, as well as a bunch of other goodies. From one mega-franchise to another, the Attack onTitan Movie Collection is a must- own for otaku of the Japanese cinema and anime varieties alike. Collecting both films in one tidy package, these monster live-action films see humanity on the brink of oblivion at the hands of seemingly unstoppable, mindless giants, dubbed titans. How can the human love? Sailor Moon Crystal Set 1 is essentially a franchise reboot, so if

well, anime series centred around sports can be inspiring to say the least, and Yowamushi Pedal is no different. Sure, it's a bit corny at times and is every bit as funny as it is inspiring, but the fact remains that Sakamichi Onoda makes you want to be better. Not necessarily at cycling though. Not that there's anything wrong with being a cyclist... The lesser known Studio Ghibli title Only Yesterday finally gets a release on Blu-ray and, of course, it's beautiful. Not one of Miyazaki's releases, this film is directed by Isao Takahata and as such it contains less whimsy and fantasy than other Ghibli releases. That's not to say that you'll be bawling your eyes out like in Grave of the Fireflies , but you will get a more personal look at the human condition through the experiences of the very human Taeko. Also hitting shelves this month is A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd , Project Itoh:The Empire of Corpses , Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon Part 1 , Guilty Crown Complete

Mobile Suit Gundam

Although dated, the themes are still incredibly relevant, with war fuelled by a hunger for power and fanned by social and religious exclusion. Cowboy Bebop is brilliant in just about every way but was released quite a while ago now, so there's every chance that younger fans haven't checked it out yet. If that's you, do yourself a favour and binge-watch this masterpiece. Honourable mentions go to Dragonball Z for its massive impact, Puella Magi Madoka Magica for showing that magical girl stories aren't all sweet, Steins;Gate and Eden of the East for nothing more than excellent storytelling, and FLCL because everyone needs to break their brain once in a while.
