THE MIELE TWOINONE Elegance and flexibility for modern kitchens M iele presents a new approach to kitchen design, combining advanced induction cooking technology with an integrated downdraught extractor. This new appliance allows unobstructed views, making it ideal for open-plan kitchens where overhead cabinets or conventional rangehoods may detract from the overall architectural design. On the 80 cm wide cooktop unit, the central extractor is framed by two variable PowerFlex zones. This allows the extractor to remove vapours and odours, reliably and precisely, where they originate allowing recirculation or vented extraction.

For optimum grease separation, the TwoInOne features a 10-ply stainless-steel grease filter, housed in a practical filter box. This can be removed easily and placed in a dishwasher for cleaning. Miele’s CleanCover is located behind the grease filters and constitutes a smooth lining which is both easy to clean and protects against exposure to moving parts. Editor’s Note... Dear Readers, Welcome to our winter edition.

Challenge yourself to move more now the weather is cooler. There is family commitments, running our home, looking after our pets, checking in on relatives and friends and keeping our bodies and minds healthy and in good condition. Be mindful, every day and shape your life around what makes you happy. Being constantly stressed and run ragged has a lasting effect on our physical and mental wellbeing and it is so important to take time out for ourselves to rejuvenate and stay strong. We have many tips in this issue to help keep your health in check with diet and simple physical activities that really do make a difference. Stress affects our blood pressure and heart health so be sure to take time out this season to de-stress by doing nothing with some of your time, by immersing yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of nature and it has been shown to reduce stress and lower blood pressure. No need to rush, take it slow... Enjoy our tips on helping to manage your toddlers, and there is some great places to see or spend time. Our tasty and easy recipes are sure to warm you up on those chilly winter nights. Don’t forget to make sure your animals are warm and cosy also, as they feel the cold just like us. If you cannot bring them inside make sure they have a dry and sheltered place to sleep and raise them up off the cold ground and pad them with lots of warm blankets to snuggle into. They have cheap blankets at the charity shops especially for animals. If you have any unwanted blankets and dog coats be sure to donate them to charity or your local dog pound. Boost testosterone naturally

T estosterone is the main sex hormone produced by men and is responsible for many masculine characteristics. The hormone plays a role in growing facial and body hair, regulating sex drive, building muscle mass and mental wellbeing. Therefore, lacking the hormone can result in hair loss, increased body fat, reduced muscle mass and a low libido. Boosting testosterone can merely be put down to this: get enough sleep, eat well, stay active and manage your stress. Sleep is important to maintain a healthy body. A lack of sleep inhibits your body to produce many hormones including testosterone. Research has shown that testosterone levels are higher the longer you sleep. It is recommended that you achieve 7-9 hours of good quality sleep each night to give your body enough time to rest and repair.

Your body produces testosterone in response to how active you are. Basically, if you don’t exercise your body reduces testosterone production as it is not required to support muscular growth and bone density. Similarly, increasing your activity levels stimulates your testosterone production to improve muscle mass and bone density. Research shows that multi-joint exercises such as squats, dead lifts and bench presses are the way to go. Free-weights are also preferred over machines as your core muscles are more engaged triggering more testosterone production. When you are under physical or emotional stress, your body releases the hormone Cortisol. High levels of cortisol within the body reduces the amount of testosterone produced by the body. Therefore, reducing stress and subsequently cortisol will help to maintain testosterone levels.

When it comes to your diet and testosterone, zinc and vitamin D are of particular interest. Zinc plays an important role in testosterone production and even a mild deficiency can impact hormone levels. The good news is an adequate amount of zinc is usually achieved by maintaining a well-balanced diet. The best foods for zinc include beef, turkey, prawns, scallops, seeds, lentils, spinach and asparagus. A study on the link between vitamin D and testosterone, has shown that individuals with higher levels of vitamin D, also have higher testosterone. There are small amounts of the vitamin available in fish, eggs, UV-irradiated mushrooms and fortified milk or cereal products. However, the best source of vitamin D is not obtained through diet but through exposure to sunlight.

Simple and Tasty Chicken Punjabi Curry Ingredients 4-6 Chicken thighs whole 2 tablespoons oil or gee 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 4 Cloves minced garlic 1-2 onions finely chopped 2 tablespoons grated ginger 1 small tomato, chopped 1 tablespoon tomato paste 1 tablespoon garam masala 1 tablespoon tumeric 1-2 green chillies, chopped 1 cup water Method 1. Heat oil on medium heat and add cumin seeds, once change colour add the onion and saute 5 mins. 2. Add ginger and garlic cook another 5 mins or until onions brown. 3.Add tomato paste, chillies, tomato, tumeric, garam masala and stir to mix then add water. 4. Bring to boil then simmer 5 mins. (Gravy should be thick not watery) 5. Add chicken, mix well and cook on low heat 40 mins or until tender. Garnish with coriander and serve with rice. Serves 2-3

Y our new floor is going to be something you live with for a long time so notice what floor drew your eye the first time you saw it. Fromyears of selling flooring it is no longer surprising that after much deliberating and changing minds it is frequently the first floor a client picks that they go with. Once you have a colour and style you like, you can consider what material will best match your lifestyle. Questions to ask should include: Do you love the beach? Will sand be carried into the house by children or tenants less careful about cleaning their feet than you? Do you have dogs inside that could scratch a varnished floor? Do you want to keep cleaning to a minimum?

timber will give you a far tougher finish than a board that needs to be sanded and vanished in your home. Ask your local flooring shop to show you the difference. Buying local and using a team in your area to lay it will mean there is someone close by to sort out any issues you have with the product should they arise down the line. Lastly, take your own advice. Others will have their own ideas, but this is your floor, so pick it for you, not to please someone else.

Laminate will give you a water resistant to water proof floor that is very hard to scratch with a matt surface that more easily hides dirt. Laminates are also good for high traffic areas such as entry, lounge, dining, kitchen or rumpus rooms. A quality laminate is waterproof, has a lower repeat rate in the plank design and will have better colours and surface texture, which make the boards more authentic looking. By touch most people can’t tell a quality laminate from a real timber plank. Make sure you are getting these features for the price. Q: In your opinion, what’s the absolute best and most friendly 100% natural protein powder? With so many on offer all saying they are superior, I just can’t get my head around it. I do know that with working physically hard all week, plus my exercise program that includes swimming, some weight training and Pilates, I really do need to be putting more protein in. I must tell you I have a very sensitive gut, so it definitely needs to be easy on the digestion. follows the odd cold that creeps up as it slowly but surely worsens, often with a sore throat. I’m embarrassed to admit I fall for the same vicious cycle every year. I sometimes also end up with a chest infection that drains all my energy and I worry I’ll have scarred lungs from all the coughing. Last year I even got the full blown flu and when feeling like I was at death’s door, I swore I wouldn’t let it happen again in 2018. My kids (five, eight, twelve and fourteen) usually go down first. Pretty soon all the grownups including my Mum and Dad, follow suit. It’s not long until the whole clan is sniffling, sneezing and coughing as we take turns to moan in voices that sound like we all swallowed razor blades for breakfast. Taking time off work for me means no pay, so it’s very stressful time financially too. I now realise that trying to save money and not working on our health has totally backfired in more ways than one. The lost productivity is outrageous, not to mention plenty of time wasted sitting in doctors’ waiting rooms with other sick people, breathing in who knows what other bugs? Then there’s the hard earned cash spent on drugs (legal of course) that we hate to take, and for the most part probably don’t really hasten our recovery anyway. I at least understand antibiotics strip the good as well as the bad bacteria and that’s why Probiotics are very in these days. I heard they’re somehow good for the brain too. Sorry and please forgive me rambling on, but I’m very determined and ready to look at what needs to be done now for us to stay strong, keep working and hopefully prevent any serious health problems before they happen. My parents have worked hard all their lives and I know they should be enjoying life now, not being sick and laid up a few times a year. My plan is to lead by example to encourage them health wise instead of going down the medication track to the nursing home like most seniors do. Any advice will be hugely appreciated and will be put into practice at the very least by me. I’m excited to start making changes soon.

Method: 1. Blitz to make balls and place mixture into a bowl. Put a little sesame oil on hands to stop mixture sticking and form into balls. 2. Place on greaseproof paper and steam for 5 mins 3. Add into frypan to brown outsides or deep fry. Dipping Sauce: Ingredients: Soy sauce, fish sauce, 1/4 cup dark sugar, lemongrass chopped, chillies chopped. 1.In a saucepan warm up the soy sauce and fish sauce, add the sugar, lemongrass, kaffir leaves and chillies. Remove from heat and serve.
