For the Brestle family, owners of Calvi Electric Company in Atlantic City, supporting the community is a tradition going back generations. “I have a letter opener,” says CEO George Brestle, “A token of thanks from Atlantic City Hospital for a donation made back in the 1950s. Our history of partnership goes way back,” he says. Calvi is a major sponsor of the Foundation’s signature annual fundraising events, the Thomas L. Glenn, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament and the Annual Century Club Gala. George’s son, Michael, company president, says it’s just the right thing to do. “This community has supported our company over the decades, as our family prospered. It’s important to give back,” he says. George’s grandfather, Joseph Calvi, founded the firm in 1909. Joseph established the firm’s commitment to philanthropy quickly and today’s Calvi Electric continues to invest in dozens of charitable organizations serving Atlantic County, including the AtlantiCare Foundation. “We are fortunate that our business doesn’t require a big advertising budget. So we invest that money back into the community. I’d rather see it go to people who can really use it,” George says.
