YOUTH PROGRAMS

WMS Early Release Day Trips Join us on the Windham Middle School early release days for a morning of games and fun, pizza lunch, and trips to fun area locations in the afternoon. Parks & Recreation staff will host participants in the WMS Music Room beginning when school is dismissed at 10:00 AM, and all trips will return to WMS by 4:00 PM. Trips are open to grades 6-8. Wednesday, March 29 th – Spare Time After lunch, we will head to Spare Time in Portland for two hours of bowling, a laser tag mission, and video games in the arcade. $5 Game Zone card, bowling shoe rental, and laser tag are all included in the participant fee. DATE: Wednesday, March 29 th 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Location: WMS Music Room Fee: $30 Wednesday, May 10 th – Monkey Trunks Let’s take a trip to Monkey Trunks in Saco for climbing, zip lines, and adventure. Monkey Trunks Adventure Course includes ziplines, swinging beams, hanging tires, a giant swing, and more! Participants will have the opportunity to attempt different levels of the course based on their own comfort level. Date: Wednesday, May 10 th 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Location: WMS Music Room Fee: $30 Tuesday, April 18 th – Kite-Making Workshop & Presentation Open to grades K-5, this vacation week activity includes an interactive presentation about kites, flying, and kite history from educator Bob Ray of “Why Things Fly”. Bob will share a variety of kites and stories, and then kids will have the opportunity to make their own kite to bring home and fly! SACC has been invited to join us for this event. Please note that the fee for this activity covers the cost of your child making a kite. Date: Tuesday, April 18 th 1:00 PM-3:00 PM Location: Windham Town Hall gym Fee: $5 kite materials fee Thursday, April 20 th – Teen NH Trip including Funspot Arcade & Remick Farm Open to grades 6-12, we’re taking a trip to the world’s largest arcade in Laconia, NH! Each participant will receive 50 tokens and a game of mini golf, along with pizza for lunch. On our way home, we’ll stop at the Remick Farm Museum in Tamworth, NH for a program of old-fashioned candle-making and a farm tour. Date: Thursday, April 20 th 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Location: Depart from and return to Windham Town Hall Watch for more programs like this for the 2017-2018 school year! April Vacation Programs

Story Walk Programs

June 10 th – New StoryWalk opening at Lowell Preserve! Windham Parks & Recreation is excited to host the opening of a new StoryWalk. Join us for refreshments and a chance to be one of the first families in Windham to walk the trail and read the new story! July 12 th – StoryWalk Hike at Lippman Park Join Windham Parks & Recreation and the Windham Public Library at 10:30 AM for a group hike through our StoryWalk, with a new book. Feel free to pack a picnic and enjoy the park after the hike!

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Introducing… Find It Here 2017: Windham Trails Edition Don’t miss this chance to win great prizes while exploring Windham’s beautiful trail systems! Find It Here is a photo scavenger hunt of outdoor experiences in Windham designed to encourage families and individuals to get outside in conjunction with National Trails Day on June 3 rd . This program is open to teams of two or more people, and at least one team member must be 18 years of age or older.

All teams who participate will receive a “Find It Here 2017” bumper sticker, and 3 teams who complete the challenge will be selected at random to win prizes including a Maine State Parks pass. When: Monday, May 22 nd – Monday, June 5 th Where: Donnabeth Lippman Park, Lowell Preserve, and Mountain Division Trail Fee: Free! Teams must register to participate.

Maine Recreation and Park Association Discount Ticket Program The MRPA discount ticket program has proven to be a very successful program here at Windham Parks & Recreation. Discounted admission tickets will be available for the following spots: • Funtown /Splashtown Combination • Splashtown only • Water Country • Aquaboggan • York’s Wild Kingdom Ticket prices to be announced soon, and can be purchased at the Recreation Department during regular business hours

Summer Concert Series Due to last year’s success, we are happy to bring back the Summer Concert Series at Dundee Park The Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee are pleased to announce we will be bringing back the Summer Concert Series to Windham again for this summer. This very popular 4 week series will happen on Wednesday Evenings beginning July 12 at Dundee Park. Local community organizations may receive a fundraising opportunity by running a concession booth. Summer Teen Programs

Summer Enrichment Windham Parks & Recreation is excited to offer a variety of summer enrichment activities to supplement the summer day camp program. Activities may include bicycling groups, paddling outings, movement classes, video production, and more. Details will be available when our full registration opens on Monday, April 24 th . Enrichment programs will also be open to the general public outside of summer day camp. Summer enrichment programs will be announced on our website, www.windhamrecreation.com .

Senior Camper Program Must be 14 by June 15, 2017. Campers who participate in this program pay discounted rates. Senior campers are required to participate in a minimum of 80 program hours and sign a Senior Camper Contract. CIT (Counselor in Training) Program Must be 15 by June 15, 2017. CITs are expected to provide a minimum number of service hours for the program; successful CITs will be given first consideration for future employment. Summer Track & Field for Boys & Girls

Wayne St. Peter’s Youth Tennis Program

Begins week of June 13 th ; State meet—August 12 th Runners will participate in weekly local & regional meets; State Meet held in August for anyone who qualifies. Practices: Monday & Wednesday 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the Windham High School track facility Meets: Thursdays during the day at various Southern Maine High School Track Facilities. Schedule provided at 1 st practice. Bus transportation from WHS track will be provided to the meets; Parents responsible for transportation home. Fee: $120 resident /$130 non-resident All paid participants will be registered members of the USATF (incl. in the fee) Registration Deadline: Wednesday, June 7 th After this date, there will be a $10 late charge.

Wayne St Peter has been coaching summer tennis camps for many years, along with other certified teaching pros…. his camp is a great way to introduce your child to the game of tennis. Camp will include drills, conditioning, exercise, strategy and match play throughout the week-long program. Option 1: Half Day: 9:00 AM–NOON Fee: $150.00 resident / $160.00 non-resident. Swim Lessons Held at St. Joseph’s College, this is a six-week program for all swim levels, with transportation provided for kids enrolled in camp. Grades: K-8

Country Sunday @ Litchfield Sportsman’s Club—Sunday June 11 We are returning to Litchfield to take in another Sunday afternoon of live country music from the members of the Down East Country Music Assoc.(DECMA) It’s like being back at the Saturday night dances of years ago—but you’ll be home by dark!! You’ll hear old country, new country, classic country and a bit of good ol’ rock and roll that will fill your afternoon. Kitchen is available for lunch. The house was constructed for Captain George Tate (1700-1794) and his family who had arrived in the Colonies around 1750. Tate served as the Senior Mast Agent for the British Royal Navy, overseeing the cutting and shipping of white pines from Maine to England. As the only pre-Revolutionary home in Greater Portland that is open to the public, the impressive period furnishings, beautiful grounds and herb gardens, and unique architecture of Tate House offer an insightful glimpse at the 18 th century and life in Colonial Maine.
