October 2018 Newsletter

GOLF

Dear Members,

In the September Newsletter issue, I outlined the many changes that are taking place with respect to the rules of golf, and gave a brief explanation about several of them. Additionally, we made a series of videos that are now airing on FCTV (Channel 999 on your cable box) that visually explains some of the changes. The majority of the changes have been implemented in an effort to speed up the pace of play. As a golfer and more importantly, the Director of Golf at Frenchman’s Creek, I applaud the

USGA and R&A’s efforts to enhance the speed of the game. Two major changes are specifically directed to that effort:

As a reminder, all the new USGA rules will go into effect October 1, 2018 . If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the professional staff for clarification at the Golf Pro Shop (561) 622-1620. • A players score for each hole maybe capped at a maximum score set by the commit- tee, which may be a fixed score (6, 8, 10, etc.) or related to par (such as a double bogey, triple bogey). • A player that does not finish a hole and has (picked up) will not be disqualified, but will record the maximum score set by the committee for that hole. • Finishing a hole regardless of how high the score, leads to slow play!! • Maximum score allocations, should be used by beginners, and group day to day play. Rule 5.6 will encourage the prompt pace of play by recommending the following. • All players should recognize that their pace of play, affects those they are playing with and also, those playing behind them. • It should not take a player more than 40 seconds to take a stroke (usually less), when playing ready golf • Sets a time expectation for both beginners and experienced players as to what is ex- pected as pace of play. • Encourage players to play out of turn in a safe and responsible way to save time. • Be prepared in advance for each stroke and move quickly between each stroke and from green to tee. Maximum Score:
