Mauna Kea Sunset & Stargazing Tour Details

Description: Join us for an exciting journey through space and time. From sea level to the slopes of Mauna Kea you’ll witness the dramatic diversity of our island's landscape. After a hot picnic-style dinner we’ll enjoy a scenic coastal sunset. As daylight fades, we’ll move to a stargazing area where your Interpretive Guide will reveal the wonders of our Hawaiian night skies with our 11” Celestron telescope.

Capacity:

Minimum of 4 pax per van Maximum of 14 pax per van

Operation:

Daily, call for availability.

Tour Time:

Tour time changes seasonally with sunset times. Departs HFT headquarters between 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm. Returns between 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm.

Pick Up:

Pick-up at HFT Headquarters, Queen’s Marketplace and select Kohala Coast resorts.

Dress Code:

Guests should wear closed-toe walking shoes, long pants and bring a sweater or jacket. Hooded parkas are provided.

Restrictions: Physical— Must be able to walk over uneven and sometimes muddy ground. Children ages 8 and older.

Hot picnic dinner at private location, private star show with our 11” Celestron telescope, hot cocoa and warm chocolate brownies. snacks. Hooded parkas and walking staffs. Enjoy dinner outside at our private location up at 6,500 ft. elevation on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Travel upland to a dry forest at 8,000 ft. Walk through a native forest habitat where native birds thrive. Enjoy a scenic sunset at an intimate location at an elevation of 8,000 ft. on the slopes of Mauna Kea.

Enjoy dinner outside on an outdoor deck up at the Makani Golf Country Club. We’ll venture to a private area near the course for the sunset viewing at Pu’u Anahulu.

Enjoy unobstructed views of the sunset with panoramic coastline views at a 2,100 feet elevation. After sunset your guide will choose a signature stargazing location on the western slope of Mauna Kea including our private location at 6,500 ft. Location will depend on group comfort and weather conditions. Sip hot chocolate and warm chocolate brownies as your interpretive guide illuminates the universe with our 11” Celestron telescope.
