Chebeague Island Council Calendar October 2025 Issue #10

The deadline for submissions for the November issue is noon on October 20. Advertising rates are as follows: full page, $80, ½ page, $40; ¼ page, $20; 4-line classified, $10; 6 to 8 line classified, $15. Each submission should include the intended publication date, size wanted, and the number of months the ad should run. All ads must be paid for at the time of submission. The Calendar is published monthly by the Chebeague Island Council. It is available on-line at Chebeague Island News (www.chebeague.org) or www. chebeagueislandcalendar.com and delivered to every active mail box on the island. The Calendar welcomes submissions from its readers, including letters and thank you notes, but it cannot publish anything that is political in nature, libelous, or obscene. All submissions should include the author’s name and contact information. Without exception, the deadline for submissions is noon on the 20 th day of the month preceding publication. Submissions and ad copy may be mailed (247 South Road), left at the Council office (on 247 South Road) or emailed (chebeagueislandcouncil@gmail.com) and sent as attachments (.doc; no pdfs) or included in the body of the text. Images and photographs should be sent in a .jpg, .jpeg, or .rtf format. Please do not use the old email address at as this is an inactive account. As a courtesy and space permitting, island nonprofits are given up to a free half page each month to publish their news. Any such submissions exceeding a half page will be charged at the usual rate. All submissions become the property of the Chebeague Island Council, which reserves the right to edit them for length and clarity. Submissions that are not time sensitive may be held until there is enough space to publish them. Additional information about submissions is available at www.chebeagueislandcalendar.com.

The Recompense Fund held its annual celebration of Chebeague Island nonprofits in August at the Rec Center. The celebration opened with a standing ovation for founder Eldon Mayer , joined by his wife, TRF board member Betts Mayer. Highlights included: ● Land Trust: Executive Director Penny Asherman thanked the community for protecting plovers while reporting new conservation at the Hook and 18 protected acres. ● Community Church: Chaplain Victor Diaz said, “We are so grateful to be a part of this incredible community,” and reminded all the church is “interfaith and multi denominational.” CICA: President Bill McKenzie welcomed new island residents, including a child who “will be in our school for … years.” ● Fire & Rescue: Jeff Westcott said new volunteer gear is critical “where minutes and seconds count,” while urging more recruits. ● Library: Trustee President Pips Veazey said, “I couldn’t be happier and more proud of the library,” as plans for a new addition move forward. ● Sailing School: Director Jessica Fleck called it “a valuable part of our island community,” providing scholarships and lifelong friendships ● CTC: Vice President Susan Stranahan marked its 50th year, stressing, “As anyone who lives on Chebeague knows, barging is critical to island sustainability.” ● Scholarship Fund: Board President Sarah McKinnon said support “will directly impact our year-round families’ lives” as tuition costs rise. ● MacBeth: Carl Tubbesing praised South Pacific as the summer’s “centerpiece.” TRF President Toby Webb closed by thanking nonprofits, who “galvanize so much talent for the island good.” The Recompense Fund held its annual celebration of Chebeague Island nonprofits in August at the Rec Center. Off-Season Boarding & Schedule Change Indigenous People’s Day is right around the corner, and with it comes a new CTC schedule. Beginning Tuesday after the holiday (October 14), the 10:30 pm/10:45 pm “Late Boat” will run Friday nights only with no bus service . We will also shift to Off-Season Boarding Procedures, including ticket collection underway and updated off-season fares. Boarding will still begin 10 minutes before departure— please wait until the crew invites you aboard. Off-Season Fares and Schedule Parking Applications for 2026

Flu Shot Clinic It’s Nothing to Sneeze About!

It is that time again! Flu and Covid vaccine Clinic is October 22, 9-11:30am at the Hall. The Northern Lights nurses will have the standard flu vaccine, 65+ version, and Covid vaccine. Forms will be available in early October. They will be at the Library, the Town Office, the Post Office entryway and the Council office. Please bring your completed form with you to the Clinic. If you have Medicare, Medicaid, and/or Health Insurance please bring your insurance cards. If you do not have insurance, or your insurance does not pay for these vaccines, the Council is able to pay for this. Let’s try to have as many folks as possible get vaccinated and help keep everyone healthy.
