A rare photo of members of ‘ K ’ Branch Geoff Jackson Branch Secretary, IPA ‘K’ Branch - East London and South Essex Having a relaxed informal Sunday lunch meeting at the Ingrebourne Links Golf and Country Club. The club has great gym facilities, driving range and golf courses… and of course Good Food! Derbyshire Branch Christmas meal Clive Wood Vice President (Responsible for the Professional Portfolio) I was very pleased recently to accept an invitation to the Derbyshire December branch meeting which coincides with their Christmas event. The evening was held at Lumb farm in Ripley and there was an excellent turnout. Helen and I left very early from Leicester to be on the safe side and found ourselves with enough to time to visit the Denby Pottery Village which is almost next door. I didn’t realise we needed quite as much new crockery for Christmas but I suppose on the bright side it was from the factory shop! Having been to Lumb Farm before for Region 5 meetings I knew the food would be of a high standard and I was not disappointed. Although there was some confusion over the starters and taking another member’s prawn cocktail caused me considerable grief! I think that would’ve all been forgiven had I not then won several times on the raffle! I doubt I shall be invited next year! The formalities of the Branch meeting were dealt with swiftly by Chairman Bill with great enthusiasm which meant they did not at all detract from what was then a pleasant Christmas meeting. Following a first class traditional four course dinner we were entertained by Diamond Cut, an all female barber shop octet (although there seemed to be a larger number in the group). We were entertained by well known songs and Christmas carols with some audience participation adding to the mood. Heavy snow fell for most of the meal which did make me a little anxious about the journey home. Luckily the motorways were clear and I was soon safely back in Leicestershire. My thanks go again to the executive and members of Derbyshire branch for the very kind invitation and I do hope in all seriousness I may be invited back again in the future.

Sussex AGM Dave Stamp (Sussex). At the Sussex AGM on the 22/2/18 Marilyn Martin, the Branch

Secretary, was presented with a framed photograph of all those involved in the Sussex branch trip to Waldshut in the Black Forest in October ‘17. All those attending from the branch signed the photograph and the gift was given to her in recognition of all the work and effort she put into arranging the group travel to the event.

Survey Monkey Clive Wood Vice President (Responsible for the Professional Portfolio) £50 in vouchers was offered as a “bribe” to members in Region 5 to take an on-line survey monkey member journey questionnaire sent out recently. This obviously worked as there was an excellent response which will be subject to another article once all the results have been examined and categorised. A computer generated random winner turned out to be Daryl Kenny, a member from Staffordshire Branch. Prior to working in Staffordshire Daryl worked as an officer in the Toronto Police Department Canada. Just earlier this year, and following 13 years of continuous part-time distance learning study, Daryl was awarded the title Doctor of Criminal Justice. His presentation coincided with the presentation to Neville Lawrence of an honorary degree at the same university in Portsmouth.

Well done once again Daryl and thank you to all members of Region 5 who took the time and trouble to complete the survey. It really is appreciated and I’m sorry that everyone couldn’t win
