High voltage use for eco-cable

Romeo, executive vice-president of Prysmian’s energy business. Medium voltage P-Laser cable has been introduced in other European countries including The Netherlands and Spain.

Prysmian Group has tested what is believed to be the first electrical system using high-voltage P-Laser cable. P-Laser is a high-performance eco- sustainable cable for electrical grids. Made from recyclable raw materials, P-Laser is designed to help to reduce the environmental impact of electrical grids while increasing efficiency and transmission capacity. High-voltage P-Laser canoperate at temperatures above the typical 90°C of traditional XLPE technology. The new 5km 150kV link near Milan, owned by TernaSpA, representsa fundamental step in the reorganization of the high-voltage transmission grid in the South West area of Milan that will allow connections to be optimized under a medium-term program. PryCam has been installed at the two extremes of the approximately half-kilometer P-Laser section. This new instrument, developed by Prysmian Group, allows any pulse signals generated by partial discharges to be monitored and accurately measured, thereby preventing failures and the related costs, by monitoring the different parts of the electrical grid without having to switch it off. “The development of the high voltage P-Laser cable follows the introduction of medium voltage P-Laser,” said Fabio

New category 6A system

TE Connectivity (TE) has launched a new category 6A unshielded cabling system, designed to meet the performance and density demands of 10GbE applications. Comprised of TE’s new SL series Amp-Twist jacks and panels, along with a reduced diameter patch cord, the system strengthens TE’s full-line copper cabling and connectivity portfolio. TE’s SL-series modular jacks are said to incorporate Amp-Twist technology for improved termination speed, reliability, and consistency. When used in conjunction with TE’s SL-series termination tool, all four twisted pairs can be simultaneously terminated and trimmed in as little as one minute. The jacks incorporate crosstalk reduction technology and interchangeable color caps for port identification. TE Cat 6A U/UTP panels offer 24-port 1RU and 48-port 2RU density and are available in flat, angled and dynamic-angled configurations. The cat 6A U/UTP system offers unshielded structured cable for 10GbE transmission of up to 100m. Benefiting from TE’s AirES cable and “inside-out” filler technologies, the
