The Holy Father has received the offering of$ 10.000.00, sent to Him by Your Excellency, representing a further sum subscribed by the faithful of your Diocese, in answer to appeals made in the columns of "The Southern Cross", on behalf of the suffering children of war-stricken countries. In critical and tragic times such as those through which we ar& now passing, it is a.consoling and encouraging thought for the Holy Father that the more fortunate of His beloved children are so closely united with Him in His endeavor to alleviate some of the indescribable suffering and starvation to which so many members of His flock, and particularly the helpless little ones, are stiil subjected, His Holiness bids me assure Your Excellency that in His own prayers and in those of the children who will benefit by your generosity, you and your devoted clergy and beloved faithful wil~ be gratefully remembered, that Almighty God may reward your charity with abundant heavenly graces. With this prayer on His lips, the Sovereign Pontiff affectionately imparts to Your Excellency, and to the Directors, staff and generous readers of "The Southern Cross" His paternal Apostolic Elessing. Gladly availing myself of this occasion to renew to Your Excellency the assurance of my very high esteem and cordial regard, I remain,
