outstanding progressive medical insti- tutions thereby acquiring a wealth of experience and knowledge in ad- vanced medical science. This should form good material for scientific pro- grams and revitalize our activity in medical research. The most recent advancement in emergencies, field and operating room surgery, mrdical pro- phylaxis, treatment, and the labor- atories should, through this medium, become common knowledge to us all. They should be encouraged to present papers and take active part in the discussions at our scientific meetings. This year being a year of recon- struction is also a year of opportunity. Our progress rests largely upon the constant, loyal interest of each indi- vidual member and not alone upon the activity of your officers and coun- cilors. No matter how noble their intentions or how earnest their efforts your "administrative body" is but a servant body working at your com- mand. Come to the meetings and take an active part in its affairs, this is your Society and it will be only as good as you make it. Our slogan is : ATTEND THE MEETINGS. The Program Committee's untiring efforts to provide a worthwhile pro- gram has been rewarded by a very small attendance. It is suggested that special notices of the program be mailed to each member before every meeting besides being published in the Bulletin. That invitations be extended to the medical schools and fraternities to hold their special lectures in our audi- torium when possible on our -meeting night. That committees be appointed at each hospital to personally notify and invite the residents, interns and externs to each meeting. That invitations be extended to post graduate and senior medical stu- dents and their attent ion called to each program.

The elegant, well equipped, price- less library, a monument to the in- terest, zeal, sacrifice, ability and genC'rosity of the doctors who served the Society the past 110 years arc now still serving you through this vital flow of recorded knowledge. It will be our earnest effort through- out the year to encourage the 11sC' of the library by all members of the Society. The problems before us are many and weighty, be informed of the issues and assist in a constructive solution. A united coordinated body of every member is absolutely necessary for the vital issues at hand and for our future existence. All man's talents are not too much for such a noble profession as Medi- cine, may we ever acknowledge and appreciate this noble calling and s1rivC' to be more worthy, may the &i,reat f,tysician ever inspire our minds and talents and ennoble our hearts, strengthen our purpose to lift the burden of suffering from our fel low men, give us the true realization of the great privilege that is ours.
