The bishop speaks only a few words of English, but through his aid, the Rev. John Vos, he told re- porters who questioned him about China's political strife that "I hope they come to agreement." When further questions were put, Father Vos said the bishop did not feel he was in a position to give a detailed statement. Bishop Thomas Tien En Route to Rome For His Elevation

Cardinal-designate Bi6hop Thom- as Tien, of the Society of the Di- vine Word, first representative ot China to be selected for the College o1 Cardinals, will arrive here this morning aboard the attack transport Wakefield, en route to Rome to re- ceive the red hat from Pope Pius XII later this month. Bishop Charles Francit! Buddy, of the San Diego Catholic diocese. will meet Bisl\op Tien. when he disem- barks at approximately 8 a.m, at North Navy pier. Bishop Tien and the Re,•. John Vos. of the Society of the Divine Word, rector of the cathedral at Tsingtao, China, who is accompanying him, will be guests of BU:hop Buddy In his Sunset blvd. residence until sometime this week- end. when they will ·leave for the headquarters of the society at Techny, Ill.
