Bishop Ordains 4to Priesthood At St. Joseph's Four young m e n yesterday pledged life-long service and self- abnegation in the priesthood of the Catholic Church as they receive, the Sacrament of Holy Orders a the hands of Most Rev. Charle Francis Buddy, D.D., Bishop of th< San Diego Diocese. MOTe than 1000 persons witnessed the ancient 2-hour ceremony in St. Joseph's Cathedral. The n e \\ priests, all of whom completed their studies for ordination at Immacu- late Heart Seminary, El Cajon, arc Rev. Frs. Earl Smith, 27; Modesto Capetillo, 35; Michael Nolan, 23. and John C. Desmond, 25. PROCESSION HELD In the procession to the altar, the seminarians wore the robes of dea- cons and carried their Chasublef over their left arms. In their righ1 hands, they bore lighted candle~. Bishop Buddy celebrated the Mass, which was interrupted at the sequence for the ordination cere- mony. At this point each candi- date was called to the order of priesthood. As they approached the altar, the Bi~hop admonished - them on the gra\'ity of the orders they were to take and told them of the virtues and ideals that should shine forth in their lives. LITANY SUNG The candidates prostrated them- selves on the floor of the sanctuary in the ancient posture of penitential supplication while the solemn Litany of the Saints was sung. After a triple blessing, the dea- cons arose and were made priests by the Apostolic ceremony. The new priests joined in con- celebration of the Mass with Bishop Buddy. Before its conclusion, they again approached the bishop at the altar and received the power of administering the Sacrament of Penance. Following the ancient rite, each candidate then placed his folded hands within those of the bishop and offered his allegiance. The ishop kissed each upon the cheek, I aying. "The peace of the Lord be always with thee.''
