~I Public School I , 'Release Time' Begins Sept. 23 The opening of the San Diego City S chools next week will mark the initial v enture of the city pub- lic school district into the much- discussed "Release-time" week-day r eligious instruction. After a week given to setting up the curriculum l of the schools, the religious edu- cation classes will commence on Monday, September 23, to be a regular part of the school program of ten selected elementary schools for the fourth, fifth and sixth grades thereafter throughout the coming school year. It is, of course, the duty of par- ents and guardians of children to make formal application for the release of these children, a regular petition form to be furnis_hed by the class teachers- and to be sign- ed and returned to the teachers next week. Many parents have al- ready complied with this require• ment last June.
