Alan Carr’s 12 Stars of Christmas (Channel 4, 10pm) Alan turns festive elf as he hosts a star-studded quiz show in which three famous faces compete to win hundreds of presents for the studio audience, each taking it in turns to choose doors from a giant advent calendar, behind which are more celebrities armed with questions about the highlights of the past 12 months. Alesha Dixon, Rob Beckett and Alexander Armstrong take part, with guests Miranda Hart, will.i.am, Matt Lucas, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Roger Moore, Little Mix, Bear Grylls and William Shatner asking the questions and setting the challenges.

Monday, December 19 Sir Lenny Henry – A Life on Screen (BBC2, 9pm) During his 41 years in the public eye, Sir Lenworth George Henry, to give him his full name, has used his talents in a wide variety of genres, from comedy to drama, to writing and stand-up, not to mention TV presenting, music and Shakespeare. As a result, he fully deserves this tribute to his career, featuring clips, as well as interviews with friends and colleagues, and with the man himself. Chris Tarrant: On the Xmas Express (Channel 5, 9pm) Chris embarks on an epic journey through Scandinavia, starting out on the south-west coast of Norway and travelling to the capital Oslo via a blizzard-prone mountain region that doubled as the ice planet Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back . He then heads to Stockholm, before crossing into Finland to visit Rovaniemi, known as Santa’s Sir Lenny Henry – A Life on Screen (December 19, BBC2, 9pm)
