BOBO CHOSES CHATTING WITH

T o the mountains or the sea, to the grocery store or rocker chic LA: Each season Adriana Esperalba, creative director for Spanish label Bobo Choses, leads her 15 person team to a new destination where they explore and express the season’s adventure through a collection of hand illustrated children’s clothes and home goods. Bobo Choses loosely means “innocent things,” and represents the world from which Esperalba derives her inspiration. “We are drawn to everything that comes with the universe of the child: from the carpets in the room to a pretty bag for the mother,” says Esperalba. Each season’s adventure is bound as a children’s book, the original story giving context and greater meaning to the designs. This season we welcome an “Unknown Mountain Journey.” This magical mountain features a talking horse (“Mr. Smith”), flocks of pointillist birds, rubber stamp forests and more expressed on cotton rompers, tees, knit sweaters and flowy dresses. Esperalba began her creative career as a graphic designer in Barcelona. Interested in applying her designs to a new medium, her journey into fashion started in 2009. “We decided to try our luck with a small t-shirt collection at a Playtime trade fair in Paris. We had a very small budget—we slept at my brother’s house, and just crossed our fingers, hoping everything would go well.” The first Bobo Choses collection, dubbed “The Englishman and the sitting bull,” turned heads at the fair, and set the stage for their own business journey as a fashion design label. Bobo Choses is designed just steps from the sea in a converted toy factory in Mataro (not far from Barcelona) where Esperalba’s dreamy, magical world is always brewing, a delicious mix of nature, culture, imagination and fun. We get to know the former graphic designer Esperalba and what’s behind the magic of Bobo Choses. Each collection a story and creative journey, Adriana Esperalba shares the latest from the lighthearted Spanish darling with a serious following.
