CNC chamfering machines OMP, Italy, has unveiled a new line of chamfering machines – all CNC controlled – called CH-200. They are capable of working both ends of a ø200 tube maximum, with a different program for each end, and the company says it is an ideal solution for the heavy tube industry. The Five+2 axes control system gives customers the opportunity to perform almost every type of machining on the tube. It is engineered to handle heavy tubes and is capable of working automatically and semi-automatically with an external independent loader. It is modular and connectable to other lines of the OMP cutting systems but also other brands. The control system is equipped with a large touch screen display, is ISO language programmable and also works with CAD-CAM solutions. OMP Srl – Italy Fax: +39 0445 640225 Website: www.omp-group.com

Pipe machinery from a single source

MANY companies offer machinery for pipe production but only a few can produce machinery for high-quality large pipes, claims Graebener. And only a handful of those are able to manufacture virtually the entire range of machinery for this purpose. One of these very scarce companies is Graebener machine. The German company is able to equip a pipe mill with all machines needed – except for welding. In Rostock, plates of up to 120mm thickness are first fed into a Graebener four-side plate edge milling machine to create a neat welding seam on every side. Then the plates – up to 4.8m width – are transported into a four- roll bending machine where they are bent in to a pipe with diameters between 3 and 7m. After the pipe has been bent, tacked and internally welded, a milling machine for longitudinal seams perfects the external weld seam preparation. Two other milling machines perfect the circumferential weld seam. The Graebener 4-roll bending machine also has a special feature: a supporting bow. Thanks to the bow, it is possible to

use slender cylinders with a diameter of 920mm, because it increases the pressure on the top and the bottom cylinder about 50%. Alternatively, significantly thicker cylinders have to be implanted. The risk: thick cylinders are provided with an increased camber, which can possibly cause on the plate, and finally in the pipe, diverging thicknesses. This applies by analogy to the bending of cones, for which EEW SPC uses a second machine with the same principle of production. A machine operator at EEW SPC explained the advantage of the supporting bow as follows: “Between 50 and 120mm thickness, the supporting bow bends a pipe from any plate. Without the supporting bow, with thicker cylinders only, this won’t be possible.” That is the reason why more and more pipe mills order the Graebener 4-roll bending machine with supporting bow.
