End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 7 students will be able to explain how sums and differences of fractions and mixed numbers can be estimated and common procedures for adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.

● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( The fraction represents…because… ) ● Mathematical terms ( estimate, benchmark fraction, equivalent fraction, common denominator, mixed number, sum, difference )

● Connectors to indicate reasons ( because, so, that means, as a result ) ● Visuals ( fraction strips, bar diagrams, tables ) to extract information ● Past tense doing verbs ( renamed, estimated ) to explain solution
