Support Language : It is often confusing to students that the numerator is said like a counting number while the denominator sounds different. Point out that most denominators end in the “th” or “ths.” Draw a simple fraction model and have students write the name of both the numerator and the denominator. Enrichment 7-9: Mixed Number Riddle Challenge students to construct their own models using fraction strips. Then, write an addition and a subtraction equation that matches a partner’s model.
