Year/Make/Model: 1992 Jeep Wrangle Sahara Owners: Michael Betton and Colton Taylor Location: Edmonton, Alberta

JURASSIC PARK JEEPS

While Edmonton looks nothing like the jungle island of the ill-fated Dinosaur Theme Park in the classic 1993 movie Jurassic Park; local boys Michael Betton & Colton Taylor have brought a little bit of Isla Nublar’s tropical rain forest vibe to the northern Alberta city with their Jurassic Park Jeep Replicas. Michael Betton wanted to build something unique to bring to the car shows he likes to frequent. He was looking to replicate a vehicle from a movie, but one that he hadn’t seen done already in Edmonton. That’s when the idea for Jurassic Park Jeep #18 was born. Betton embarked on a 5 month journey to transform a1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara in Sand Beige to an exact replica of the Theme Park Jeep from the film, Jurassic Park. A bit of repair work, stripes and decals, and change to a soft top later, his vision was complete. His Jurassic Park Jeep was included in his car club’s Stollery Children’s Fundraiser; where he and his Jeep helped to raise $1000.00 for the charity. Colton Taylor has been a Jurassic Park fan ever since he first saw the movie in Grade 1. He came across Michaels’ Jurassic Park Jeep on a Facebook post, and he was inspired. He contacted Michael, bought his own 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, and the pair worked on it together. It was a tough 6 months as there was more work than anticipated with Colton’s Jeep. First of all, his Jeep didn’t come in Sand Beige like Bet- ton’s, and required a full paint job. They also found a few surprises under the hood, and unfortunately some engine work was required. And lastly, Taylor’s Jeep had rust… lots of rust. But through perseverance, hard work, and a lot of fiberglass and bondo, they finally finished: Jurassic Park Jeep #29 was ready and road worthy. So next time you’re in Edmonton, be on the lookout for these two fantastic Jurassic Park Jeep Replicas. They will be attending a charity event near you soon.

Year/Make/Model: 1999 Toyota Hilux Surf Owner: Chris Wilson Location: Vancouver BC Instagram: @christhecheeseball

When you get stuck off-roading, the only thing better than a rescuer with the right tools and loads of experience is one of those with a good sense of humor. With the Instagram handle @christhecheeseball, it’s clear that this enthusiast is funny. He waited a long time to get his dream ride: “For sure Toyota. Always been in love with the brand, just was not able to buy one at first as they are so expensive! I love it for the fact that you can go buy a 25 year old Toyota with 400,000km on it and it still drives perfect and is very reliable. The quality of engineering and design put into their older vehicles is un-paralleled.”

Naturally, Chris ended up buying a Toyota, but not just a regular one, oh no. He had one shipped straight from Japan to his hometown of Vancouver. It is a 1999 Toyota Hilux Surf, at least that is what it is called in Japan. Here, it is a RHD North American 4Runner. “I had no in- tention of originally buying a RHD vehicle, but I fell in love as soon as I sat in it.” This suits Chris’ idea of what a Dream Ride should be: “There are a lot of cool trucks around, but I admire anyone who is creative. Anyone who goes beyond the status quo and makes something creative and for a purpose on their vehicle. I am huge fan of different builds and people being the first to do something. That’s what I am always trying to do.”

Chris and Rescue Runner have been all over and experienced many off-road challenges, but his favourites are Poison Mountain, China Head and Oregon Dunes.

ROB DUFAULT

Rob Dufault has been a member of Team NSOR for over seven years. What he likes best about his job is: “working with customers who have the same interests as me and waking up in the morning and enjoying coming to work at a 4X4 shop!” Rob is a very successful off-road racer. He describes his area of specialization in broad terms, but he can actually back this up due to his experience in living the off-road life. His area of product expertise is:“anything from a stock 4x4 to full on rock crawler.” He has been off-road racing and winning since 2010 and he has a very long list of the races he’s entered and his results: Safari Off-Road Challenge, Edmonton 2010/High Riders’ Challenge, Alix 2010-2014/ Hard Grass Havoc, Drumheller 2013, 2014 /We Rock, Goldendale, Washington 2015 2nd Place, Sportsman A Class /Idaho X Rocks, 2015 2nd Place, Unlimited /Monroe Prison Break, Monroe, Washington 2014 /Hope Motor Sports Brigade Days Summer Smash and Pumpkin Smash. 2012-current In the last race, I got the fastest time over all and won in Comp Modified and Buggy Class /Pemberton Off-Road Rally, 2013-current /Island Cup, Vancouver Island 2012-2016. In the 2016 race, 1st Place /Merritt Off-Road Events 2017 July Race. 2rd Place /Punisher 4x4 @ Merritt Track, 2017 3rd place, Unlimited Class /North Idaho Mud and Crawl 2014 1st place, Unlimited Class. When he was asked what he loved most about racing, Rob was enthusiastic: “I love the competition! Making new friends and comrades is the best part of racing for me. Being surrounded by people with the exact same interests as you really gets the blood flowing.“ Currently, Rob is racing a 2012 j5fab 4 wheel steer rock crawler called DUF Buggy.“The name came from my old man.” When he was a child, he dreamed of “1980’s Toyotas with flat decks and now Rob has “progressed from a stock Toyota with 33” tires to a cou- ple of Toyota-based buggies, to now his dream four wheel steer trail slayer! This required some serious conversions: “I bought the buggy as a single seater and converted it to a 2 seater, so my dad and I could go wheeling again!” First, he installed “new BFG Comp Crawler tires because they are the best tires on the market!” Rob recommends starting with tires for almost all new vehicle owners and suggests that a winch be one of the first purchases too. His favourite accessory brand is: “Camburg as they make the best ‘go fast’ parts on the market”. Rob’s favourite accessory right now is “my lights, this is the first vehicle I’ve had with more than enough lights.” Of course, he now plans to add bigger tires because “everyone wants bigger tires”. This particular buggy began to feel like a Dream Ride “early in 2012, when the buggy made its first trip to the King of the Hammers desert race in Johnson Valley, California. Rob describes this week-long event as endless trails and there is always a large group of people that want to run trails all day and night. Since then, he will “compete in anything from local short course races/obstacle courses, all the way to professional rock crawling events”. His proudest moment so far is: “Winning the Island Cup in 2016 on Vancouver Island in East Sooke - and it still drove on the trailer after I was done!” It is now crystal clear that Rob is a bona fide expert on living the off-road life and that makes him an ideal member of Team NSOR. Rob is proud to display the company decals on his Dream Ride: “Seeing the windshield decals as a kid all over the place and always wanting to have a truck with the banner flying high.” Can’t you just picture Rob crossing the next finish line?

22 THE ACCESSORY DREAM GUIDE

ART OKEEFE

For an enthusiasts, Art OKeefe has the ideal job. He has worked at Raven Truck Acces- sories, for 9+ years and he describes his job this way:” I get to do my hobby and get paid for it.” His latest build is a 1984 Toyota Hilux called Team Green. That’s been the name for all of his builds: “the name came from my first truck I built, and just stuck.” When he first bought it, this truck was stock and anything but green. Indeed, Art calls it “very rust- ed”. He chose the Hilux because Toyotas are “tough as hell” and “I’ve built 9 now and know them very well”. Art began to modify and accessorize Team Green by “working from the ground up” and installing a suspension. Although that is where he started on this vehicle, Art is diplo- matic when it comes to advising others about where to begin: “it would all depend on what they were building it for”. Art’s many years of customer service experience show here in that he realizes that each build, like each customer, is unique. Right now, his favourite accessory is his Smittybilt Roof Top Tent. When he installed it, his Hilux felt like his Dream Ride or, as Art states: “I finally built my overlander.” Like most enthusiasts, Art has a great sense of humor. When asked if he had a dream vehicle as a child, Art answered: “Yeah, a dinky car, lol”. There is still a bit of the kid in him when it comes to his latest Hilux: “before I painted it, I gave my kids and their friends markers and had them decorate it. We had a lot of fun watching them draw pictures and write little quotes”. Art jokes that his next add-on for Team Green is also is favourite place to take it, namely “more horse power”. He plans to “get a V8 conversion next summer”. In the meantime, Art spends his time off “overlanding, hunting and fishing.” In many, many ways, Art OKeefe makes the ideal Raven team member. He can install what he sells, he provides experienced advice to a wide range of loyal customers and he is proud of our brand. For instance, when asked why he has the Raven Truck Acces- sories decal on his Hilux, he states: “I’m proud to be on Team Raven and I want people to know that.” Finally, he loves his Dream Ride: “Well I guess I could say, it’s noisy, it’s cold in the winter and it rides like a tank, but you know what? It makes me smile every time I get behind the wheel and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

His Instagram handle is a clever play on his own last name, combined with a tribute

to the transformation of his ride: Foxamusprime. His love of all types of motorized vehicles goes all the way back to when he was 7 and “standing outside in the winter with my dad and his friends. They were all getting ready to head out on the snowmobiles, so they were starting them up. Each time one would start, the sound just made me grin from ear to ear.”

He is also a planner/dreamer. His Dodge felt like his Dream Ride “from day one when I went into the dealership to order it, specifi- cally built for me and it took 3 months to ar- rive. Talk about feeling like a kid on Christ- mas. I could not stop smiling.” “My first set of modifications were a lift, tires, rims, a tonneau cover, mats, window visors and I ordered them all before the truck was delivered.“ “Not even a week after that, I made a cross country trip from Toronto to Edmonton.” Curtis advises new enthusiast to first add “what you are comfortable with and can afford.” “Start where you want because it only begins there.” His favourite brands are: “Fox because its my last name and Kelder- man because their suspension systems are 2nd to none.” His best accessory so far is the “Full Lotus UTV ramp, it just makes the truck stand above all the rest, literally!” The next item he plans to add is “a set of Hornblaster train horns with the spare tire delete kit.” His favourite off road spot is: “Big Horn Dam by Abraham Lake. The views there are endless.”

Year/Make/Model: 2014 Jeep Wrangler JKU Owner: Tore Greco Location: Vernon BC Instagram: @tore_greco

Tore Greco and his 2014 Jeep Wrangler JKU, a nameless female by the way, live in Vernon, BC. His choice of make is interesting. Jeep is not specifically the brand he is loyal to: “I’ve always been a Ford guy. Started young with a Ford family and have always loved them inside and out.” However: “It was a no brain- er to build a Jeep considering the endless list of mods and the capability of the vehicle.” He hasn’t had his Jeep long enough to have added all he wants to it yet, but it is already his Dream Ride: “The first time I had to winch myself out of a mud hole after getting covered top to bottom, I knew it was a vehicle I wanted to continue to build and felt like it was mine.” The first thing he added, a “bumper/winch combo” was an experience-based choice: “Too many times being stuck or out alone made it an easy decision for my first mod.” Tore’s fondest memory so far also relates to his Jeep’s abilities: “I was cruising the backwoods and found a steep rocky hill, doors were off and 4 low was engaged. I felt it was the per- fect opportunity to test hill descent mode so I pushed the button and walked down the hill beside it, hoping it would work!”

The enthusiast lifestyle has a strong social element for Tore: “I have been a part of the Alberta Truck Addicts family for a few years now. It was recommended by a friend and I quickly realized how much of a family the group really is. The boys in charge put on meets and shows down to camping and bonfires. From helping in the community or certain individuals with fundraising, charity rides or just information, they always give all they can.” With many mods still to come, we can expect a great future for Tore and his Jeep.

Calgary’s Scott Dombowsky-Oneski is passionate about perfection and striving to be unique. He’s also a loyal Dodge guy. He named his 2017 Ram 2500 CCLB Cummins redpearlcummins because he “wanted to incorporate the colour and engine be- cause they are both flawless.” Year/Make/Model: 2017 Ram 2500 CCLB Owner: Scott Dombowsky-Oneski Location: Calgary, AB Instagram: @red_pearl_cummins

This preference for Dodge pickups is nothing new. Growing up, his Dream Ride was “a Red Ram 3500 CCLB Cummins Dually”. Scott explains how his goal of having a Dream Ride began: “I consider it a pas- sion. I always wanted to have something different than everyone else. Having a stock vehicle is bor- ing. I was always told to go big or go home.” So, he went big, buying his Ram from a fellow BertaRAMS member: “brand new, completely stock, and I did all the modifications myself.” His quest to make red- pearlcummins unlike any other truck was his first pri- ority, so he began by installing: “Magnum running boards, which have a different look than the stan- dard oval running boards from Ram.” Then it felt like a Dream Ride because: “it started to become one of a kind”. Scott likes being a member of BertaRAMS and attending car shows with other members of that group because: “It’s a group full of Ram enthusiasts willing to help one another out.” While redpearlcummins is currently Scott’s daily driver, he says that “won’t last for long.” In the meantime, he enjoys “driving across Alberta with great friends”, “bear hunting in North- ern Alberta near Manning” and he’s gone as far as “Kenora Ontario, Lake of the Woods.” He has big plans for his Ram this year. Redpearlcummins will be “fully built to be on display at SEMA 2018 in Las Vegas.” This is not the first time that Scott’s work has been featured internationally. He “competed at World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017 for Cabinet Making”. This is one enthusiast who strives for unique perfection in more than one arena.

JOHN DOLLIVER MEMORIAL TRUCK Year/Make/Model: 1993 Dodge Pickup Owner: John Dolliver Location: Penhold, AB

This is a very special Dream Ride. It is a memorial to John Dolliver, who was killed as a passenger in a motor vehicle accident on Canada Day of 2016 when he was just 18 years old. John was very passionate about mechanics and he was planning to pursue a future in the automotive field. Like so many Dream Riders, build- ing his Dream Ride was John’s passion: it was all he ever talked about, according to his family. John and his dad had just started to transform his stock 1993 Dodge pickup before he died, so in his memory and to help with the grief, John’s parents decided to gather his friends and rebuild his truck just how he had envisioned it. After reviewing the text messages between John and himself as well as talking to John’s friends, his dad compiled a list of proj- ects on a white board in his garage in Penhold, Alberta. After an incredible 600+ hours and many laughs and tears, the build list was finally completed. While John had dreamed and originally discussed most of the mods to this truck, some of the add-ons are truly a tribute to him and the wonderful person he was.

Modifications & Accessories: - 4 inch Skyjacker Lift - 12 x 20 Wheels with 35 Roll Pan Full Body Rebuild - Custom Front Bumper - Hardwood in Box - Diffs Cleaned up and Painted Pictures on Tailgate - Brakes Done - Fuel Pin - Custom Stainless Stack/Urn Designed and Mounted on the back that holds part of John

The new fabricated front bumper was designed just for John’s truck and the wooden floor in the box was also a very important component in John’s Dream Ride. It is complemented by a beautifully fabricated stainless steel stack which was designed as a funeral urn so that a part of John is always with his truck. The tailgate features photos of John hunting and lists his name and birth and death years. John’s mother, Tammy writes of what happened next: “Once the truck was completed, we decided we needed to do more to keep his memory alive, that is when we decided to set up a scholarship at John’s school that would be awarded to a student who lived his everyday life as a kind, caring, compassionate person, who was also willing to help and had the passion for mechanics as John did. So now we have the John Dolliver Memorial Scholarship at Lindsay Thurber High School. It is awarded annually to a graduating student wanting to pursue mechanics. We decided to also do a yearly Show and Shine to help fund this scholarship so it can be awarded for many years to come. The 2nd Annual Show and

Shine is already in the planning stag- es along with a Burn Out Competition. Those interested in this Dream Ride can follow its progress on the John Dolliver Memorial Truck and Car Show page on Face Book, where there is a list of all the up-coming events.” John’s father, Scott, enjoys taking this Dream Ride to car shows, charity rides and group events for Red Deer Rides and Truck Enthusiasts. His two favourite memories of this Dream Ride are the John Dolliver Memorial Car and Truck Show in June and when Stefan, one of John’s closest friends, drove the truck to his grad.

Year/Make/Model: 2017 Can-Am Defender Owner: Sherman Chatman Location: Fort McMurray, AB

Fort McMurray’s Sherman Chatman drives his 2017 Can-Am Defender for two reasons: what it allows him to do and how that feels. First of all is the vehicle itself and the accessories he’s selected: “this brand has security and comfort for both leisure riding with my family or aggres- sive riding when needed during huntingseason in the back country. There are seat belts to aid in the safety for our travels. You can hang a gun, chainsaw, gas can, etc. with the use of unique tie holding straps. When Sherman bought his Defender stock, it already came with an enclosed cab and heater, so the first add-on was an easy pick: “I chose a 3 inch lift because a stock unit is about 10 to 11 inches off the ground. Adding the lift increases the mobil- ity in the back country and winter driving in the snow.”

Modifications & Accessories: - Panoramic Center Mirror - Front Bumper - Front Corner Protectors - Rear Bumper - Defender Fender Extender - Defender Rock Sliders - Headache Rack Assembly - Bed Wall Extender Kit - Dash Compartment Net Kit - Hunting Dual Gun Holder Kit - Rear Cargo Light Kit - Digitally Encoded Security Key - Overhead Audio System - Dome Light - Rigid Industries Light Bar - LED Light Bar - Rear Rim - 30” Intimidator Tires - 3” Catvos Extender Kit - Turn Signal System with Horn - On/Off Rocker Switch

Sherman calls his favourite accessory so far “absolutely amazing”: “I love the hydraulic front window. You can open the window a quarter or open it all the way. It helps you get that outdoor breeze and feel like you are on a quad. If it rains just close it and turn on your wiper kit.” Next, he wants to try tracks because they are great in winter and they also work in muskeg. He also wants to give a shot out to the teams at Raven Truck Accessories & Motor Sports & Printing Unlimited L.P. for all the help to bring his dream ride to life! The Powersport and its accessories work well for Sherman, but equally important is where it gets him to: “The Fort McMurray wildfire added a lot of stress to our community and our family. A little break once in a while is really what we needed, even if it is only for a couple of days. To just sit back and enjoy nature is so peaceful. I respect the Alberta surroundings more so now than ever before. To breathe the country air, while listening to the frogs croak and the birds sing… is my Heaven.” Sounds like the perfect Dream Ride.

Chris Anderson and his 2002 Chevy Tahoe LT share the name of Tahoe Boy. Chris writes: “it’s what people know me and the truck as around the neighbourhood. They are very fond of my straight pipe exhaust.” In this case, the neigh- borhood is Fort McMurray. This Dream Ride began as a practical solution to a joyous problem: ”I needed to give it my own touch and start making it my own. I had just sold my full custom 96 Accord show car as I had twins on the way and needed a better “family vehicle” as a lowered 2 door wasn’t going to cut it.” The family vehicle became the Dream Ride “in the last year, once I got the lift on it and got my new rims and tires on.” So far, he has two favourite accessories on this Dream Ride: “the 6.5” BDS lift and the custom hood that I built In my garage, it’s a 2014-16 GMC hood grafted on to the stock hood. I did all the fab work, body work and painting in the garage.” It’s no surprise that Chris did work on his own Dream Ride because: “I used to help my father work on vehicles since I was a child. It’s always something I’ve enjoyed doing.” So far, Tahoe Boy has only been in one Show and Shine. “It’s really my daily driver, I do a bit of off-roading, but nothing too extreme.” He belongs to: “The Fort McMurray Drivers Club, it’s a local group, lots of friends of mine are in it. We have regular meets during the nice seasons. It’s for anyone that has a passion for anything automotive.” Finally, Tahoe Boy is a typical enthusiast because of his drive to upgrade and personalize his Ride: “I can’t leave anything as it is. There really is no stop- ping now lol”

COMMU

CAMERON GILMAR RED DEER, AB

It started simply enough. Although Cameron Gilmar had been in the truck community for many years, it wasn’t until he and his wife Liz bought their first truck and one of his lifelong best friends, Darcy Gudmundson, added him to True North Rams that “it really took off for me”. “I thought, what is this, after just a few short days I jumped in and was posting and commenting like crazy.” Now, Cam is in deep. He is on the “Admin Team for True North Rams and Red Deer Rides. He also belongs to Truck Enthusiasts, Trucks of Canada, Berta Rams and Badlands Rams Facebook Groups, just to name a few. I believe I frequent close to 12 groups, posting and commenting as an active member.” When he was asked to help by joining the Admin Team for True North Rams, Cam never hesitated: “I was excited about the opportunity to really start to showcase what our area had going. I can tell you I have never looked back.” It became personal: “I wear my heart on my sleeve, so when a

member needs something and I feel I can provide some help, I will gladly give what I can. I believe that the more you give and show kindness and support to others, the better we can all become. I have al- ways believed in pay it forward. I struggle from some fairly serious health issues and have been helped before in ways I could never repay for, because of that I vowed to myself that selfishness would not be part of my vocabulary. The most reward- ing part of what I have tried to help build in the truck community is friendships, both personal and professional.”

“The personal rewards greatly outweigh anything I could have ever hoped for. My family has grown so large, I have new brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews because we are not just about the trucks, we’re about the people. This extends both my life and laugh lines.” “I would like to thank my soon-to-be-wife, Elizabeth Gallant, our beautiful children Shellden and Kimberley and my mother-in-law, Christine, Tammy, Scott and Brianna Dolliver, Darcy Gudumndson, The Found Clan, Sven and Jen Macrae and Brad Magee, truly my TNR Family, our local RDR Family, Truck Enthusiasts (Team Raven) and Scott’s 180 Collision in Red Deer for the beauty work on my truck.”

NITY MEMBER

What others have to say about this “Community Leader” speakers volumes about his commitment to the lifestyle and his big heart!

“He is generous, unbiased, caring and most importantly humble. Whether you have known Cam for 15 years like I have or just met him yesterday, his friendly, outgoing personality will make you feel comfortable and welcomed. He’s truly a genuine person who will always put others first before himself. Cam will treat you like family even if you just walked into his shop to buy some tires, and you will leave with more than just a set of tires...you will leave with a great friendship. And even when it is well deserved, he’s too humble to take credit for the great things he does and has done to make everyone’s day a little brighter.” - Kurt Lenton “Cam has a huge heart, he cares a lot

about everyone in his life, and he’s always been willing to help out for a good cause. There’s times we feel like he does too much, but not to him, he does everything with 110% drive. I don’t think he understands the meaning of good enough. Which is one of the things I like about him the most, he’s always motivated to do the right thing to the best of his ability. He’s always been there when I need him, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend. ” - Brad Magee “Cam and I went from meeting randomly on True North Rams and awkwardly in a Tim Horton’s parking lot, to now being like he’s a big brother to me...a much older brother, I might add. We went from having no community support and few contributors to weekly meets to now Cam is part of several charity events including local ones and

events hosted hours away. He puts in tons of effort between 3 major groups in our area: Red Deer Rides, Truck Enthusiasts and True North Rams. I can honestly say our groups would probably not be the same without his involvement. We’ve definitely become family.” - Richard Found

“He’s all around a great guy. He will give you the shirt off his back and will always drop what he’s doing just to help a family/friend out. Kind and caring, he’s a great dad and a great husband. He always gets everyone involved for our weekly meets and shows that we do, with the John Dolliver Memorial Show along with all the other shows that he really tries to get out to. He helps us grow as a family in the truck world.” - Sven MacRae “Cam is a great leader in our local groups. He’s always there to lend a hand and he’s a great friend. Not many people are as committed as Cam is when it comes to our truck groups.” - Brendon Fulgham

“Cam is an all-around great guy, always willing to help anyone out. When I thought about doing a small car show in John’s memory, I asked Cam about this and he jumped right in and got things going and made our first show great. He is the backbone of our group. ” - Scott Dolliver “Kind and Compassionate are two words I use to describe Cam. We had only Known Cam a very short while when we had mentioned putting on the 1st Annual John Dolliver Memorial Truck And Car Show. Cam jumped right in and began organizing it... if it wasn’t for all of Cams hard work with the Initial start up, in listing people to help, canvassing businesses and gathering volunteers, the 1st Annual John Dolliver Memorial Show would not of been as successful as it was”. - Tammy Dolliver
