USING FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS TO DEVELOP NEW SOLUTIONS This training session is designed for project teammembers seeking to design or optimise products through effective work from a multidisciplinary team. To benefit from comprehensive training in innovation for new product development, this module can be combined with the “Creativity methods and tools” module.

• To understand the principles of functional analysis and value analysis • To participate effectively in a working group applying these tools to optimise the design of products and respond to new demands.

• Functional analysis: how to express real customer needs? • Product development; design to cost approach • The different steps of the method • Conditions for implementation, key success factors and pitfalls • Value analysis: how to challenge technical choices against functional requirements? • Different design tools and methods to select relevant concepts according to economical, technical and marketing criteria Teaching techniques: the tools are applied to a unique case study in subgroups, from customer needs to the selection of a product concept.
