Capital Project Description: Oakdale Middle School opened in 2001. The building was designed to accommodate a future addition. The core facilities were sized to handle the student population with the future addition. Currently, Oakdale Middle School has a state rated capacity (SRC) of 775 and is at 113% of state rated capacity. The school is located in one of the fastest growing areas of Frederick County Growth expected over the next ten years which will necessitate the need for additional school seats. The addition to Oakdale Middle will increase the capacity of the existing school by 298 students, adding about 21,000 SF to the existing building, including 12 additional classrooms, 2 science classrooms, a science prep room, student support offices, and other required spaces. This project is utilizing the first design-build project delivery approach for FCPS. The project has an accelerated schedule, with construction expected to begin in the summer of 2020 and completion in the summer of 2021.
