UNIVERSAL BEHAVIOR SCREENING- Elementary

SRSS-IE (Systematic Risk Screening Scale- Internalizing and Externalizing)

Background Information

What is it? Universal screening is a deliberate and systematic way of noticing student behavior that might be a barrier to student success. The SRSS-IE is the universal screener used in elementary school. The SSRS-IE is a behavior screener based on teacher perceptions and is a single data point that when used in conjunction with other data, will help to generate plans for intervention through the school’s MTSS framework. Why do we do this? Universal screeners are important to schools as they provide indicators of the social-emotional health of a system and the individuals in the systems. It helps to identify the prevalence and severity of problems so that resources can be applied more effectively and efficiently. How do we do it? The SSRSS-IE is intended for classroom teachers to complete and is located on the dashboard. It is a validated tool that teachers use to rate students on 12 observable behaviors using a four-point Likert scale (0=Never, 1=Rarely, 2=Occasionally, 3=Frequently). Teachers will rate the following behavior observations. ● Stealing ● Lying, Cheating, Sneaking ● Behavior Problems ● Peer Rejection ● Low Academic Achievement ● Negative Attitude ● Aggressive Behaviors ● Emotionally Flat ● Shy, withdrawn ● Sad, depressed ● Anxious ● Lonely Here is a screenshot of what the questions look like in Dashboard.

The SSRS-IE is completed three times yearly in the fall, winter, and spring. The building principal will open the evaluation window and notify teachers. Students are listed vertical and the behaviors listed horizontally. Teachers think of each student and should scroll across fully completing each student before moving on to the next. At the end of the scoring, click submit.
