Classroom PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is an evidence-based system that helps define the key components of a well-managed classroom and online learning environment. The heart of classroom management is building strong relationships with students, developing routines, and organizing environments that promote student success through the active teaching of positive social behaviors. Connecting classroom rules, routines and rewards to the school-wide PBIS system will help to promote positive behavior in classrooms and throughout the school. These expectations will support in- person, blended, and online learning environments. A well-implemented positive classroom management system will: • Increase positive social behaviors in students • Help students feel positively towards their teacher, administrator, and school • Help students feel safer in school and in digital spaces • Increase time for academic instruction and decrease teacher time spent correcting behavioral errors The key components of classroom PBIS include: • Clearly establishing classroom rules • Explicitly teaching rules • Reinforcing positive behaviors • Systematically correcting behavioral errors • Creating a supportive classroom

* Create a supportive classroom. *Clearly identify behavior expectations and explicitly teach them to students. *Implement reinforcement system for appropriate behavior and routinely evaluate the system for effectiveness. *Recognize students for positive behaviors. *Systematically correct behavioral errors. *Build consistency with digital routines by following style guides. *Build community through regular morning meetings and circles. *Explicitly teach digital citizenship for online safety. *Clearly define submission and interaction procedures for digital learning.
