SALTA 5th grade

Math District-wide Standard-based Assessments Administration Protocol In the Fall of 2021, teachers across the Canyons School District came together to build valid and reliable assessments that predict success with end of level comprehensive tests. These district assessments are aligned with the DOK levels for each standard, follow the state end of year assessment blueprints and use haptic-type questions such as drag and drop and fill in the blank. In order to make our assessment valid and reliable, all schools will need to follow the same protocol for giving the Math District-wide Standards-based Assessments. This will enable schools to compare data across the district within demographics and grade-levels.

Say: Today you will be taking the District-wide Standard-based assessment. All students in the Canyons School District will be participating in this test. The results of this test will be shared with you, teachers and parents. This test will take about 30-45 minutes. You may use your scratch paper, (name other provided manipulatives, see above) to help you do your best. Raise your hand if you have any questions. You may now begin. FAQ: 1. May I read to my students? Please use the computer based reader. If the listen icon appears, then the question may be read to the students by the computer or the teacher. 2. May my students take the test paper pencil and then the student enters the answers on the digital test? This is an option. The ultimate goal is to have the students take the assessment online. The concern with having the students doing both, would be the loss of instructional time and printing cost. 3. May students take the assessment paper pencil and then the teacher enters it online. This is not an option in the Pearson Realize platform at this time. Feedback has been given to Pearson. 4. May I take assessments on the iPad or Chromebook? Yes. 5. What accommodations should I allow with students on IEP or ELL? Accommodation decisions are left up to the school site with consultation from the school’s IEP, SST or leadership team. The recommended time for the Math DWSBA is approximately 30-45 minutes. Students may take more or less time to complete the task. Use professional discretion to evaluate if more or less time needs to be given. Students should be allowed to finish to the best of their ability, and should not be pressured to spend more time on the task which may not change the student’s score.
