MATH PLANNING TOOLS

Math Manipulatives List provides teachers a quick glance at what manipulatives will be needed to support student’s conceptual understanding as the teacher moves through the Concrete-Representation-Abstract (CRA) model of instruction. The use of manipulatives helps support mathematical understanding which is equally as important as the ability to perform procedural skills. Math Lesson Plan Template is a tool for teachers to help plan math lessons. It highlights key components of the enVision 2 020 lesson that are needed for high quality instruction including standards, learning intentions, and success criteria. The Canyons School District Math Block is created to support teachers as they increase student mathematical understanding utilizing the enVision 2 020 curriculum. Planning for daily math instruction should be based around the Concrete- Representational- Abstract (CRA model) and include explicit instruction. The Numeracy Components are not listed in chronological order on the CSD Math Block but should be included each day specifically at least 15 minutes of skill-based instruction so the teacher can remediate and extend students as supported by data. Year at a Glance is used to support planning and flexible pacing for the year. The document shows the order of standards taught in conjunction with the enVision 2 020 topics. Additionally, the math DWSBA window dates correspond with the scope and sequence of the standards. Following this document will ensure that all students have access to all the standards by the end of the year. Scope and Sequence contains a yearly overview, suggested flexible pacing and Scope and Sequence for teaching standards utilizing the enVision 2 020 curriculum . The scope and sequence allows the teacher to plan with coherence, rigor and focus of the standards, as well as assessment options so teachers can check for understanding throughout the lesson.

Critical Actions for Educators

• Follow the recommended minutes for math instruction allocated within the Math Block • Adjust instructional time to meet the needs of students • Each day includes skill- based math instruction for at least 15 minutes • Use the Year-at-a-glance to plan instructional days with your team • Use the Scope and Sequence to teach the standards utilizing enVision 2 020 as the tool • Stay within 10 days of the pacing guide to ensure an equitable curriculum for all students
