Efficiently identify students who are at academic risk in reading and math and/or behavior who may need additional intervention. These assessments are standardized and brief. Occurs during teaching. Requires teachers to intentionally plan and implement frequent checks for understanding to modify instruction in the moment (instructional agility), within in the context of expected learning. Collaboratively designed by teachers to provide timely feedback about student learning in order to collaboratively plan and adjust instruction. Created by teams of teachers and content specialists to assess mastery of targeted standards at set points in time. Different than team assessments, DWSBAs provide verification of mastery and sustained learning.
