have problems with the smallness or the greatness of our requests. I like to use a prayer map, running my fingers over the nations of the earth, praying for them by name. My dear elderly mother used to pray for global missions in an interesting way. She would spread out a big world map on the floor and then walk, in stockinged feet, over the nations, praying for God to pour out His spirit upon them. I cannot help but feel that Mother’s modern adap- tion of God’s word to Joshua has merit: Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. 12 About two years ago, the name of an Islamic nation in Africa started coming to my mind. I prayed, wondering if I am supposed to go there or if there was something that I should do.This particular nation is closed to the Gospel and has outlawed Christian evangelistic efforts. Recently we had a missionary to an Hispanic country with us. He told of how his people were beginning to get a worldwide vision, illustrating the point by mentioning about a busi- nessman’s move to the Islamic country of my prayers to set up a business so that he might spread the Gospel! I consider this to be at least a partial answer to my prayer. Once I read howA.B. Simpson, founder of the Missionary Alliance Church, had a guest minister staying overnight. Coming downstairs early the next morning, the guest found Simpson with his arms around a globe, weeping for the nations. At the time, I thought it was remarkable of Simpson, and wondered if I would ever be so moved. One day, as I prayed over the nations of the world using a large globe in my church office, I found myself holding 117
