Day led the University of San Diego in six defensive categories last season, including tackles (91) and interceptions (6), with the Toreros posting 4 shutouts and finishing 10th in the nation in scoring defense (10.0 ppg). For his efforts he was named USD's 1987 Defensive Player of the Year... USA Today tabbed him as one of the season's top 10 Division Ill defensive players to watch this season ... the senior defensive back became USD's first athlete to be named to the CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-America First Team in the College Division . .. he was nominated for his combined efforts on the field as well as in the classroom (3.78 cumulative GPA in Business/Economics).
