TRANSFER STATION Mechanic Falls Transfer Station
Greetings from your Transfer Station crew! Richard LaCroix, Armand Arsenault and Norman Lowe, Director. This year we have had very positive results with our recycling. Due to the recycling efforts of all, approximately 71 tons of waste did not go into the landfill or the compactor. In 2024 we recycled the following: • 66,000 lbs. of corrugated cardboard • 48,000 lbs. of mixed paper • 4,000 lbs. of newspaper • 14,000 lbs. of clear glass • 4,000 lbs. of tin cans • 6,000 lbs. of HDPE (#1 and #2 plastic) We recycled approximately 13,000 lbs. more than last year. We moved 515.17 tons of household trash to Maine Waste-to-Energy in Auburn. Their processing helps reduce the amount that goes into the landfill and creates clean, renewable energy. The bulky waste, such as mattresses, couches, bulky plastic items, construction debris, etc. was 38.67 tons in 2024, which is down from the 42.25 tons from 2023. The town pays to have household trash and bulky waste picked up and hauled away. The fees we charge residents for the disposal of these items helps to offset what the town is charged for the removal of these items. Anything that can be recycled saves money by not being added to the household trash that is hauled away.
