Sophomore Senators Mike Corrales ~ J(imberly /Farris
Michael Corrales and Kimberly Farris served as Sophomore Senators throughout the year. This dynamic duo programmed a number of events that improved class unity. Events included everything from Universal Studios and Wipe Out Graffiti Day to Laser Tag and the three Dance Jams in Club Aro– mas. Kim and Mike also worked hard to defend student concerns in Senate and Stu– dent Issues Board. In addition, they served on Budget Board and created the Sophomore Class Council to assist with programming.
$reshman Senators J(ristenjones ~
The main goal ofthis year's Freshman Senators was to bring spirit and enthusiasm to the freshman class while at the same time representing their ideas and concerns. From the thrill of"OWeek" until finals inMay, they programmed events such as dances in Aromas, Freshman pool and beach days, and barbecues at West Point Field. Continuing toward the Asso– ciated Student's theme of communication, Kristen and Brian formed a Freshmen Council and corresponded withthe Resi– dence Hall Councils. They also kept students informed with flyers and mailings. Suggestion boxes were installed inMaher, Camino/Founders, and Mission Crossroads so that students would have an outlet for venting concerns and ideas. Much of the Senator's time is spent performing "be– hind the scenes" work. All Senators attend weekly meetings including Budget Committee, Student Issues Board, and Sen– ate meetings. "Being a Senator is a fulfilling job because we are able to see how strong organization works from the inside, and how simple ideas can be transformed into workable programs that will benefit the entire Student Body. We have ahd a great freshman year, and we hope that the enthusiasm of the Class of 1999 will become an ongoing tradition."
