The head of Rufus falls . . . bounces . . . rolls . . . and

settles . . . beside that of the apostle.

The soldiers watch wide-eyed, and believe they see a

divine sign!

* * * * * The lictors , the soldiers, the Christians at a distance

—all stand stunned in a silence that can be felt.

Then like a refreshing breeze from heaven . . . a paean of worship, an exultant song of praise and thanksgiving, begins to rise from the swelling crowd of Christian believers, their faces drenched by tears, their words catching with emotion.

Everyone present knows that Paul and Rufus have

departed to that better place!
